I'm curious if any users are running TC2007 in a windows emulator on an Apple PC? I'd really like to go with a decent OS - but TC2007 is THE critical software I use and I have to be able to run it simutaneously with my desktop "stuff". I don't think a dual boot would work for me - would have to be an emulator and would have to be able to screen capture into my notebooks etc on the fly.

I hate to spend the $$ to buy a machine unless I am confident I can make it work in my trading "workflow" - any input would be appreciated.

thanks

We have no plans to develop products for the Mac OS.

It'd be nice to have some detailed explanation of this sometime. Is it just not practical? Is it the wrong OS for such number-intensive work? Is it cost prohibitive for Worden? What? I love Worden customer service, and there's no doubt that the product is superior to anything out there, but this thing pretending Apple isn't a major OS alternative customers would find useful is a bit absurd.

There are no suggestions or anything, just "we don't do that." I can understand not supporting Apple, but I can't understand not even making an attempt to look into what might be done to accommodate Apple users, other than some cold response that looks like something a lawyer wrote. Maybe at least a special section here Apple users can discuss options? What works, what doesn't?

I have been using TC2007 on my Macbook Pro using Parallels for my emulator. It works great. However I have problems using the F12 key because that key also doubles as the key that brings up your "widgets" (little utilities for OSX) so I have to use a PC for F12. Other than that no problems that I have found. Hope this helps.

Absolutely. TC2007 is the only software keeping me from being a 100% Mac user. I've been using Apple hardware/software for my video production company for about 5 years. Over this last year I have seen the huge jump Apple is making from being specifically for industry professionals (in my case Video/Film Production) to the mainstream computer user. Hopefully as the popularity of Apple continues to grow Worden can take another look at the Apple platform.

Just my two cents. TC2007 is such a great tool. Thanks for creating such a great product.

I agree, I bought this vista machine *just* for TC2007. I wish they supported Mac OSX.

You can install Windows on the newer Apple boxes and run TeleChart in the Windows environment. I don't know all the details since I'm not a Mac user, but there's been some positive feedback on the forums.

The problem with this ever-rote answer is that you guys never explain why.

First, I am not affiliated w/Worden, except as a customer.

I have, however,  worked in software development for 20 years and know a bit about cross platform (Windows to Mac to other) software development.

1. From a business perspective, for the last 20 years, Apple has garnered about 5% (at best) of the sales of desktop computers.  It simply limits the available market for their software.  If you were planning to make an investment, would you invest in a market that had 5 stocks or would you invest in a market that had 100 stocks?  You'd likely invest in the larger market because your reward/risk scenario is greater.

2. From a technical perspective, from what I observe as a user, Telechart is written using C++ (a programming language) using tools (and code elements) that are specific to the Windows platform.  Remember that Telechart was originally a DOS program, I believe -- pre Windows era.  The software cannot be easily (if at all) converted to run using Apple's equivalent tools without major effort (which may not be cost effective -- see pt #1).   Worden Blocks, again from what I observe, uses a later version of more modern tools (Microsofts .NET programming) -- but it too is proprietary to Windows platforms.

I use both Mac and Windows PCs.  I run Telechart and Blocks on my Macintosh laptop using software that very successfully emulates a Windows PC (I use VMWare but have also used Parallels).  It is fast/easy and relatively inexpensive (<$100USD).

Again, I'm just a user, but I believe I am correct in what I say.  I hope it helps folks understand some of the likely factors behind the products....

It is written in Visual Basic but your post is still very accurate.  Developing for a new OS is not a simple process.  The market for OSx charting software is not mature enough to justify the cost.

I perfectly agree with the rest of you that a Mac OSX version of Telechart would be fullfilling a customer need. I know of other Telechart users who have to run Telechart on Parallels. It never created problems for me. Most Mac software is written with Objective-C which can be recompiled from C++ in a matter of days. Telechart is a web-based services app - so it's only the front end would need porting.

I switched to an iMac 3 months ago.

The Apple OS runs much better than the Windows OS IMHO.

I also use VMWare Fusion virtual software which allows me to run Windows OS programs such as TC2007.

I found Telechart runs much faster on this setup than it did on my 3 year old Dell desktop.

I have a second monitor connected to my iMac and run the ScottradeElite trading platform on it.

For me, this setup works great.

I too wish Telechart would run directly on the Apple OS.

But more importantly, I hope Worden Brothers continue to improve TC2007.

Since there have been no upgrades to TC2007 for some time, I suspect all of their efforts are now with Blocks.

I hope this doesn't mean they are going to ignor Telechart for Stocks the same way they have with Telechart for Mutual Funds.

I would like for someone at Worden Brothers to address that point with us.

Concerning Blocks, it is OK...........but Telechart is much easier for me to use.

Also, it is very stable and does not give rise to error messages like Blocks does.

I don't have time to put up with that nonsense.

But the real bottom line is this, I can make money using TC2007, Blocks offers a lot more information, but does NOT help me make money like Telechart does.
