Also guys, I forgot to ask
Can you send me a pcf that would scan the markets for the stocks that have had a macd crossover at the signal line on the weekly chart, I'm looking for buy signals so they'd be oversold conditions.
Can you also send one for the macd that has crossed the zero line on the weekly charts, I'm looking for buy signals on this one too.

I was reading this discussion and was wondering if you use these two PCF's
1. do you use them together in one Easy Scan? and
2. do you use rank or value in editing the condition and what numerical value or ranking would you use?

The Rangefinder associated with either of the above formulas in an EasyScan would use Value. The values returned were listed in the post with the formulas:
+2: Crossed up
+1: Crossed up (but was, or is, = to 0)
0: Did not cross
-1: Crossed down (but was, or is, = to 0)
-2: Crossed down

I guess my question then is when I plug in the formula as a condition of the Easy scan it then ask to select ( and you say actual value) but you then must move the value bar to a desired number. I am having trouble translating the bar into your range of +2 to -2?

It's possible that you would not be able to select the desired range if it constitutes less than 1% of symbols with less than 640 days of data, but I was able to select Min to -2 and 2 to Max for both Personal Criteria Formulas. You could always convert them to Boolean formulas by putting either > 0 or < 0 at the end of the formula.

I am having difficulty following your last post. When I plug in the PCF "Weekly MACD(12,26) Crossing thru Zero" it ask to edit the condition. When I click on actual value you can either go Min to -2 OR 2 to Max but I can't seem to plug both into the edit feature at the same time. The sam e thing occurs whe I try to plug in the Histogram PCF? so do I enter both PCF's twice and set the actual value (Min to -2 and then the second time 2 to Max)?

The formulas are designed to be directional. If you don't care about the direction of the cross, you can either put ABS( before the formula and ) after the formula (so it is inside an ABS() function) and use the EasyScan Rangefinder or add <> 0 to the end of the formula to make it Boolean (True/False).

Now I am confused. I think this goes to the trouble that I have been having since signing up for the service last month. There is very little startup guidance. I've watched many videos on the basic use of telechart and feel that after many hours of watching that I can navigate around the sytem. I can see the potential of this charting system. The problem is that you make it very difficult for somone with no prior charting experience to build PCF's, Easy Scans etc. It is a hit or miss proposition based on whether you find a good discussion on a topic that you might want to build.
The one here is as good example as any. I saw the original discussion and saw Bruce's formula for building the two PCF's. I copied and pasted them into two new PCF's. Now when I wanted to create an Easy Scan I had a question about the editing conditions. Do you use actual value? The answer was yes. How do you set up so that the scan will generate stocks with the range from -2 to +2. Instead of simply showing how you designate the value to achieve this I get another formula from Craig (Do I then throw out Bruce's formulas and start over?) and Bruce writes back about adding letters and brackets to his already existing formula.
Both your answers are probably sound and make sense but to someone who is trying to learn telechart w/o any foundation other than navigating thru your website haphazardly it can be a frustrating experience.
I think new customers would be better served if you had more pre-loaded PCF's and Scans then the ones that you do give (obviously that shows that you think some pre-loaded items are neccessary).
Sorry for ranting but I am at a frustrating point.
Now back to the original question. Using Bruce's formulas how do I walk thru the editing conditions to get the results wanted? And Craig should I chuck Bruce's formula and put yours in as a replacement? Then how do I walk thru the editing conditions?

The formulas are directional. When using them in a sort, the items on the top will be crossing one way and the items on the bottom will be crossing the other. The items in the middle will not be crossing.
When using them in in an EasyScan, you would not set the Rangefinder to Value: -2 to 2, because it would not eliminate the items in the middle that are not crossing. You would set the Rangefinder to either Value: -2 to Min or Value: 2 to Max depending on the direction of the cross you wish to find. It is not possible to set both because that would require two ranges, not one. This is why Craig supplied different formulas and I provided the modifications that would be required to use the already provided formulas in an EasyScan to detect crossings in both directions.

The first modification I suggested produces the exact formulas Craig provided. Please try it (or take a look to verify it).

If you want to test for crossings in both directions, you can't (as explained above).

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to test for crossing in both directions instead of testing for either crossing up or crossing down, you will need to either use the formulas Craig provided or modify the one provided originally.

Thanks I will pursue both approaches and get back to you if necessary. As a new user of telechart besides reviewing the videos mentioned in the trainer section is there more that I should be doing to learn the intricacies of the formulas. I still think that if there were an instruction manual for beginners it would ease the introduction into telechart.

Realize that there is nothing that can make you "expert" at something in a months
time. Time is always required to learn. As you use things and "struggle" with things
you will learn.
A few points:
1---If 300 more pre-loaded PCFs were included someone would still complain what
they want is not there.
2---If you have a question you can ask it. There is no reason to wait for a post on
a topic you are interested in.
3---The trainers not only bring a knowledge of the PCF language and TC product.
They also bring a necessary level of math skills to the table.
4---The training videos are there to make you familiar with the product and bring new users
up to speed on its use. (they are not there to make you an expert)
5---It is impossible for any Manuel or per-loaded PCF to cover all topics that a trader
would want.
When you consider that you can ask Craig, Bruce, and Doug any question. Have PCFs
set up exactly as you like. Point out chart patterns(with tickers) for scans you would like.
Compare your results with theirs. (not to mention having other traders chime in)
For this we pay only one price. (they cannot supply trading information or indicator
settings)
Sounds like a great "value added" to me.
