Could you provide me a simple PCF that will provide me a true/false at the end of the day that tells me - "Did the stock close higher today than it opened today?".

That's all.

Thanks,

Thanks Bruce, that is very simple.

I was told that when a stock goes up on a dismal day, there might just be a follow up rise at the next open.

Bruce, it didn't do what I wanted it to do, which is show me a stock that actually rose in price today, even though the market was dismal.

I believe the correct question should have been, "Todays close greater than yesterday close".

Am I correct in assuming that the formula would be -
C > C1

Thanks,

BB

You can also avoid using a PCF all together (why recreate the wheel?)

Use the condition Price Percent Change Today (it already in your system).

You can sort by it or, in EasyScan, set it to values greater than 0.

Here is a video that features EasyScan.

Using EasyScan to find stocks that meet your own criteria

There is no reason to have the program calculate a PCF for something that is already in the system and calculated.

Thanks Craig,

The PCF fits my criteria.

I'll check out the video. Have you all made it possible to download the videos and watch them off line yet?

You can only watch online.

The only point I want to stress is you are having your program do unneeded work by calculating a condition already in your system.

The built in (and already calculated) condition I mention will do what you want it to do. Your PCF is not needed. You will be duplicating what is already available.

Thanks Craig,

I'll try your suggestion, however for 5 months now I've worked on a scanning program using a specific stock list that I use.

The results provide me a visual selection of potential stocks that will go up tomorrow and have a strong potential to trend up for the next 2 sessions, allowing me to take a designated amount of money off the table each week.

Appreciate your insight.

Great. My suggestion is only to save you from having to make something that is already made. Creating a PCF to find stocks that went up compared to yesterday when Price Percent Change Today is already in your system is like going on to the internet to try and figure out a way to create a global network that connects the world's computers and allows people to browse web sites. Someone already made it.

Craig, you're absolutely correct, and I concede.

However, the criteria I've set up for stock selection, presently consists of 9 PCFS, and specific stock baskets that I don't deviate from.

I can quickly visualize all my criteria and information needed, with a simple click on the PCF column designated.

Presently, using PCF's, if I have a row with a bunch of "Trues" all neatly lined up across the page, I have a fairly good idea that that stock is either headed up, or down, in the next session or two?

While I'm not actually reinventing the wheel or the world wide web, I am "tweaking" a selection system that originally provided me a 80% hit ratio, which now, after tweaking, has taken me to the upper 90's, with even a few 100% thrown in, for at least a few minutes, on some days.

The PCF I originally inquired about last week was to "test" and evaluate the potential for stocks that had been up on a dismally down day, to determine if they would continue rising at market open the following day. My test is over and the mixed results are nothing I can depend on, so I will not be "speculating" on that theory, but the information was interesting.

So, even using a scan would not improve the results I was seeking.

I do appreciate your insight however, and if the occasion arises in the future, I know where to find Price Percent Change Today.

I would like to ask your help though.

I presently have a PCF that gives me a "True" for 20 day average volume over 300,000 shares.

Could you give me the PCF for 'todays volume over 300,000 shares'?

I run my selection criteria each evening after you all update everything.

Would it be V>300?

Thanks for your continued diligence and patience. I've seldom kept things simple.

I see. You are using the PCF in your WL tab. That is a WHOLE other deal. Having the TRUES show up there is very cool visually. I am a big fan!

I, sir, concede to you!

V>3000

(volume is in hundreds, not thousands in TeleChart).

Craig,

Thanks for everything you do.

One final question please.

My questiong concerns building Sector Index for institutional movement into and out of the market.

Although this is a short list which I'm using as an example, where would I find the Sector Index symbols that Worden uses:
$CEX.X
DJU
$DRG.X
$SNG.X

There are 14 other symbols, all beginning with a $ sign and ending in .X.

I've tried various ways to write them in a new watchlist, but to no avail.

Thank you once again.

I would use the Company Name Search along with part of the name of the Index to find the symbols:

Select Jump | Company Name Search

CEX--X: S&P Chemicals Index
DJ-15: Dow Jones Utility Avg
DRG--X: Amex Pharmaceutical Index

I haven't been able to figure out what $SNG.X might be.

Go to the WatchList ALL INDEXES and sort by SYMBOL. All of the tickers with $ in front of them are grouped together there.

You will also find:

CEX--X (note two dashes)
DRG--X

Flag the ones you want in the new WatchList then go to ALL FLAGGED ITEMS and create a new Personal WatchList based on the flagges tickers.

Hello!
I'm interested in BB's use of PCF's in the Watch List tab columns.
How does one add PCF's to the column content list?
Thanks,

Once a PCF is created, it simply becomes a condition that can be used for sorting and scanning. Any of the sort conditions (including any PCF's you've created) can be included as a column of data in any of your watchlist tabs. Here is a short training video that will demonstrate how you customize your watchlist tabs:

Customize the Information Displayed in the WatchList

Hello!
I watched the video. Unfortunately it did not answer my question. I'll rephrase. In the Column Display Editor window there is a Column Contents List which I suppose is the Default Criterion. Now my question, how do I add PCF's to the Default Criterion list?
Thanks,

Writing a Personal Criteria Formula and updating your PCFs automatically adds it to the list of Criteria, allowing it to be used in EasyScans and Sorts like any other Criteria.

How to create a Personal Criteria Forumula (PCF)

When sorting, the Criteria are listed separately in three different categories: System, PCFs or Indicator. PCFs will be located in the PCFs section in alphabetical order. When adding a condition to an EasyScan, it is possible to limit the display to the previously listed categories, but all Criteria are alphabetized together instead of being separated.

Create your PCF, then update using the Databank menu (last option), then your PCF will show up in the list...
