Hi,
Is there a way to highligh price gaps on a chart, similarly to how ThinkorSwim does it?
Tks,
Lawrence

I really don't know how ThinkOrSwim does it. I don't have SinkOrSwim and a Google search "ThinkOrSwim Gap Highlight" didn't seem to return anything obvious which showed me what happens on the chart.
The best topic of which I'm aware on how to post images in the forums is Inserting A Chart into A Worden post.

Hi Bruce,
Referring to the chart below, price gaps are automatically highlighted in green. (Earnings with the $ symbol). I am supposing TC2000 doesn't have these features natively? These are very useful featurs to include if they don't already exist.
Tks,

Thank you for your earnings date suggestion.
It is not possible to highlight the gap in the chart using a big wide bar, but it is possible to plot a colored dot on the chart when there is a gap up or gap down.
You would do this by adding a Custom PCF Indicator to the chart with the Plot Style set to Dot.
How to add an indicator to a chart template
How to edit an Indicator
You would then need to set the Formula to something which only plots when when there is a gap. For example, if you wanted to plot the dot half way through the gap with a gap being defined as the low being above the previous high, then you could use the following Formula in the Custom PCF Indicator.
(L + H1) / 2 / ABS(L > H1)
A similar formula to plot a dot at the midpoint of a gap down defined as the high being below the previous low would use the following Formula in the Custom PCF Indicator.
(H + L1) / 2 / ABS(H < L1)
You would use a different Custom PCF Indicator for the gap up and gap down. This would allow you to plot different colors for the different types of gaps.

Hi Bruce,
Thanks for the workaround! Following your instructions, I've added pair of indicators to mark out the gap downs and gap ups but the dots appear either way above or below the relevant candles rather than half way through the gaps. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?
Tks,
Lawrence

Sorry, it is my fault. I left out a / 2 in both formulas. I have corrected the formulas in the original post.
If that doesn't resolve the problem on its own, the most likely issue would just be the Custom PCF Indicators not being scaled with price. Try clicking on the Custom PCF Indicators and selecting Scaling. You will want to scale with price (probably listed as the symbol and company name in the list) instead of By Itself.

Bruce is there a way Every time this formula is True to plot a Flat Line representing the C1 Value (O > C1 * 1.027) I would like to place this on a 1 Hour chart. Any time there is a gap of this size i wish to be able to scan back for that value for say 427 bars (60 days) - i know i would have to write a long formula to scan for that. Would be nice to have the value plotted on the chart it self.

You could plot a dot at the C1 value fairly easily.
C1 / ABS(O > C1 * 1.027)
And you could theoretically use the techniques in the Days Since Last Peak (or other day-counting needs) topic to make this plot as a flat line until there was another gap. But the maximum lookback would be in the tens of bars, not in the hundreds of bars.

i tried the link and tried a few of the short forumlas (inserting my formula) and got a vertical line on the chart is all i came up with. I am pretty much at a lose as to what to do with the information found at the linked page

The following version of the formula goes out to 100 bars. It will plot zero if there hasn't been a gap up meeting the requirements in those 100 bars.
ABS(O > C1 * 1.027) * C1 + ABS(O <= C1 * 1.027) * (ABS(O1 > C2 * 1.027) * C2 + ABS(O1 <= C2 * 1.027) * (ABS(O2 > C3 * 1.027) * C3 + ABS(O2 <= C3 * 1.027) * (ABS(O3 > C4 * 1.027) * C4 + ABS(O3 <= C4 * Perfect - Can you do the same for the reverse gap down formula
C1 / ABS(O < C1 * .973)

Please try the following.
