Is it possible to insert a ticker ("sp-500") as an overlay in the top panel when you're looking at XLU (for example) and a host of other indicators?

Yes, click on "XLU Select Sector Utilities" and then click Comparion Overlays.

In StockFinder?  What exactly do I (left or right?) click?

Oh, sorry, didn't notice this was the StockFinder forum.

Click the Add Indicator button, then type to search for Comparison.

Choose the Price History pane as the plot location. Then click on the comparison symbol to change it.
