Version 5 should run fine in XP. Can you provide more details on what's happening? Any error messages? Is it happening on a particular layout?

I get the standard Windows worning saying the program has encountered problem. A few times it would just go away without any message.

Are you still running Windows XP on the MacBook Pro? Did this crashing problem just start happening recently?

Yes I am. On the MacBook Pro it does not crash, but it crash on the the iMac. They both have the exact setup for the Parallels to run XP.

Which version of the Mac OS is running on the iMac? We have an iMac we can test with but I want to make sure the setup is as close to yours as possible.
Thanks

Thanks for the info. I just found out our iMac is out on the road at a trade show, but we'll have it back in house sometime next week and will be able to test it then.

Is there anything I can do as a temp fix?

Until we can test it in-house there's no way to know what might be causing the problem. Hard to suggest a fix when we have no idea what the problem might be.

I deleted the XP hard drive image on the iMac and use the XP hard drive image from the MacBook Pro. It was good until just now. It has it's first crash. I thought I pass along what I did.

Another update: I changed the iMac from 64 bit mode to 32 bit mode. I will see if it does anything.

unitedinvestors have you sent us your layout to look at? Sometimes customers build large layouts that their computer simply cannot handle.

Without any additional information, continuing to post to this thread really won't help us. Have you tried contacting support directly?

I have contacted support and they suggested a reset of SF, which did not help. Last night I ran "chkdsk /f" command and it found some errors on the Paralles hard drive image. I will see that if this solves the issue.

Could you also try uninstalling the data and re-installing it? That has fixed some very strange problems for me (At least for a while).
Also, does your system page a lot? You can see this by running "Task Manager" (type it in the windows start menu find box and select Windows task manager), going to the Processes tab, and adding page faults using View->select Columns. Page Faults is a cumulative number and PF Delta is what is happening right now. What it means is (oversimplifying a bit), you ran out of memory and stored some of your program's memory on disk and Windows has to stop and get that memory back before the program can continue to run. If you are routinely seeing more than 1000 under PF Delta, then that means your computer could probably get a significant performance boost from either upgrading your ram or closing programs that are using a lot of memory (in practice this can mean closing web browsers that are competing with Stockfinder for memory if you have a lot of windows open.)
The reason I bring this seemingly unrelated issue is that frequently subtle bugs that go unnoticed when things are going normally can suddenly have large impact when you add these memory-fetching pauses. I think that when I had the issues that were fixed by deleting and re-creating my stockfinder data, the issues started when I was short on memory for a good period.

Thank you for your suggestion. I just checked my Page fault and it is greater then 1000 about 98% of the time. It goes as high as almost 10,000 at times. I am running XP under Parallels and have allocated 1.8GB of RAM out of 4GB available on my 27" iMac. Should I add more memory?
How do I uninstall the data and re-installing it?

I have double the RAM on my mac and allocated more ram to Paralles for SF to use. The crash issue has now gone away.
Thank you for all your suggestions.

I am having the same crash problems at least 5-10 times a day. I have tried rebooting and running SFreset several times, which helps for awhile. I have been running SF5 for only a week and trying to get it running smoothly with only some luck. My layout is large but I am running a fast pentium quad core, recommended by you guys. My page fault delta only flashes up to around 450. Also, Mem Usage continued to build this morning until a problem occurred (wasn't this a problem in an earlier version?), but after steps taken above it is now consistent around 430,000K .
Most errors look like they are occurring when SF5 encounters some type of reference error, like I changed something but then referenced it somewhere else (ie-paint, scan, etc.) I converted a layout from SF4 and have been converting all my conditions using the new methods, which seems to be helping. Also, most problems are occurring while I am utilizing backscanner. Is backscanner fully functional yet? If not, when will it be?
Any suggestions? I can definitely tell all the kinks are not worked out. When will the next build be ready?

I also have quite some problems with stochfinder 5 in XP. It works for a few minutes and then freezes. It looks like it is slower than than stockfinder 4.
I wish I could downgrade to stockfinder 4. It worked just fine.
