Over the past week we have been transitioning from the beta into the pre-release phase of development. We will start sending out emails to all customers in the next few weeks inviting them to download the pre-release version of the software.

If you signed up for the beta test and have not yet received instructions on downloading the beta, please wait for the pre-release notice which you will receive in the next couple of weeks.

For those of you in the beta testing program, please continue to use the Beta Test forums to communicate issues to the developers.

How long does it take for you to select testers? I'm hoping to be a beta tester.

How is beta testing going to affect my computer will there be glitches that cause freezes?

As a beta tester, you will still be able to run your current version of TeleChart, unaffected by the beta version.

The beta version has been in testing for some time now, and while a glitch could occur that would lock up the system, I would think that is unlikely at this stage. However, any problems encountered will not affect your ability to continue using your current version.

Oh me, how I do hate to fix something that ain't broke:) Love my TC2000 (already on hard drive) as is, but if I must change, I must change!

Questions:

If I have to now download the new version, how long is the download on a dial-up modem? My laptop on dial-up is a must as I change physical locations 2-3 times per week...having to download 400 megs is frightening.

Since this is a new version different from the normal update CD, will the new version load on top of my current TC2000? Or will I have to delete entire hard drive program and start from scratch?

Or will all my old settings be retained? Such as chart settings, PCF's, watchlists, etc.?

Thanks

Frank

1. Using a dial-up connection, the download may take several hours. Not sure how long exactly.

2. The beta version of TeleChart 2005 is installed independently of version 5.3, so no files or settings will be overwritten.

3. The beta version of TeleChart 2005 has an import utility for your 5.3 chart settings, WatchLists, PCF's, etc..

The installation file is 114mb. Once installed, the program takes up about 600mb of hard drive space which includes all historical price data.

Thanks for reply, but your answer raises another question.

You said, "2. The beta version of TeleChart 2005 is installed independently of version 5.3, so no files or settings will be overwritten." Since nothing is overwritten, should I first manually delete the entire current TC2000 on my hard drive before loading the CD of new version? Or will the new CD load and at same time remove the old version of TC2000?

Thanks again and Happy New Year to all.

Do NOT delete your old TC2000. Both the beta and 5.3 can exist on your computer at the same time. They run completely independant of each other.

The beta version will allow you to import watchlists, pcf's, and other settings from your old version.

The idea is to not break what's already working for you while we test TeleChart 2005.

Happy New Year

I have an external HD (with USB 2 connection) and thinking about using it to store and run the beta copy of TC2K. What I am interested in is the ability to do update/store data on a single portable HD and be able to plug this HD to either my home PC or my work PC (one at a time). Is the current beta version is mature enough for this type of setup ?

Thanks

Doug, I have a similar need as cdao, but I would like to use a USB 1 GB storage key to run TC2K on different PCs between home and business travel. Would this work for the betta version as well as the existing TC2K ??
Thanks.

I applied a few days ago (maybe even a week ago) to be a beta tester. Can someone let me know the status of beta testing? Thank you.

I apologize for the delay. I sent it up the line and requested the information, and it hasn't come back. I'll go to bat again and see if I can get the definitive answer!

cdao and tkaram,

We haven't tested this type of setup with the 2005 beta. At a minimum, you would need to install the program from each machine you plan to use with the external drive since the program stores information in the Windows registry of the computer. The external drive would need to have the same drive letter on each machine as well.

I have a Xincom XC-DPG402 TWIN WAN ROUTER (auto fail over protection if cable or DSL goes out) and TCNet RT works with it but does not allow 'Update' function to work. So for update I have to connect to another router. It would be nice to have that function work on a new 2005 system. Is it possible to get that problem worked over with your technical support or the 2005 Beta testing?
Thanks, LA

If you're able to update using a different router, then it doesn't sound like there's a problem with the update function in the program. Could be a setting in the router.

You might want to edit this line from the Beta Agreement:

3) This release does not import ANY data from the previous version (PCFs, custom indicators, chart templates, chart templates, notes, etc).

. . . i.e., "chart templates, chart templates"

Will the pre-release version be under the same open discussion prohibition as the beta?

No, Trendsurfer. Once we start the pre-release the cat's out of the bag.
