Starting Thursday I am having problems updating. On two different machines, one with a new install of 2007 Gold, I get partway thru an Update and I get "Internet Connection Failed".
Yet that connection works on absolutely every other program I have. And it worked well enough to download 100+MB of the latest TC2007. And it also will download some of the data, so how can it be blocked with a FW?
I can also ping dl.tcnet.ws with no errors. Doesn't seem like anything is wrong with the connection. And, yes, I have done all the restarts and reboots and Firewall configing I can do. Still, it won't work.
One thing that may be a clue, is that I am forced to use Hughesnet Satellite internet. It isn't great, but it works for everything else AND it worked fine for about 6 years with TC!
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Dan

This likely would be a latency issue with the satellite connection, especially if the maximum time in the ping test was over 1000ms.
Another test to try, in the same command prompt window that you used for the ping test, try tracert dl.tcnet.ws
If you receive a line with asterisks and Request timed out you have found the problem node in the route from your computer to our server. Contact Hughesnet tech support to see if they can do further troubleshooting to solve the issue.

Thanks very much for your help. Okay, now we are getting somewhere!
C:\Users\Dan1>tracert dl.tcnet.ws
Tracing route to dl.tcnet.ws [208.44.223.45]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 * * * Request timed out.
2 1023 ms 1208 ms 699 ms dpc6682026130.direcpc.com [66.82.26.130]
3 917 ms 819 ms 638 ms dpc6682016221.direcpc.com [66.82.16.221]
4 966 ms 899 ms 639 ms dpc6682016065.direcpc.com [66.82.16.65]
5 776 ms 689 ms 878 ms dca-edge-04.inet.qwest.net [63.237.64.85]
6 866 ms 699 ms 1018 ms 205.171.43.182
7 707 ms 818 ms 889 ms dl.tcnet.ws [208.44.223.45]
Trace complete.
Yep, hop 1 didn't make it. Darn Satellite Inet is the pits, but I have no other choice where I live. I'll see what Hughes can do. If you have any other suggestions please post them.
Not much I can do about Satellite latency, but we'll see.

Well, I should have known it wouldn't be easy...
Here's the deal. Something must have recently changed on the TC data servers. Did timeout parameters, or spam blockers or firewall stuff change? Nothing has changed on my end. Nothing. Two different computers do the same thing. And the satellite folks tell me that the first hop on a tracert always fails (unless there is a local router, then the second hop fails). That leg is from the ground, up to the satellite then down to the op center gateway. It takes a while.
The thing is, using TC2000 with satellite Inet has worked for about 7 years now! Why is it not updating now???
Consider this:
1. All browsing seems normal and speed tests are in the normal range.
2. Connections to my broker trading workstation are fine.
3. Connections to my bank work fine.
4. Email is fine.
5. Things work fine, with or without, proxy enabled.
6. EVERY other web app I have works fine.
7. I can connect to the Worden data servers and start the Update process. Sometimes I even get a few K of data before "Internet Connection Failed".
8. Right after a failure, ping tests still work and all my Inet apps are still working.
TC2007 Update is the ONLY thing I have that doesn't work. Doesn't it seem like it is something we should fix on your end? Anybody else use Hughesnet satellite ISP? Does yours work?
Thanks again for any help.

I just restarted my Telechart account, and I have been having the same problem updating with my HughesNet Satellite. I was wondering if you had any luck solving the update problem?
Thanks for any help.

I was just able to complete an update, so it is working right now.
Let's hope this is fixed. There is always something strange going on with Hughesnet. Wish I had other ISP options...
Thanks Worden Guys, for your help!

This is now a few laters later and I can't get updates with the 2007 version. I need a lot of data since i am on a new machine and my program only has data until October, 2006. I need all the rest of the data and I get a time-out also. It shows 11G of data and I never get very far before it's flipped off the server.
I have just asked for an updated data disk so that i can catch up. There must be one for users on a new computer. Any ideas for me?

I was able to update yesterday afternoon. It took a couple tries, but it worked.
I am usally able to update over a phone modem, but if there is much data it may take a couple days. Like the poster above, when I reinstalled my TC2005 I had 11G if data. I let it run over the phone for 26 hours straight and it only got half way.
Luckily I caught a time when my regular ISP connection to Worden worked. Then I was able to update completely. Now if I update everyday, I can use the phone as a backup and it only takes about 15 minutes.

I received excellent help from Tech Support. I uninstalled and reinstalled from the Worden website. I then was able to get everything updated perfectly.
I suggest all of you give this a try if you haven't yet. Go to: worden.com and then go to uninstall and then do a new install.
Good luck,
Ellen

I have been having a similar problem for 2 weeks. Although I have been on a satlite for over four years tcnet started refusing to update through the hughes satelite connection. However it started working again today, the latencies have not changed so I assume something was corrected in tcnet.

Just another hughes net user. I'm having the same problems as everyone else. Hughes net tech support is a joke.

Yeah, update hasn't been working the last few days. Luckily I'm able to get it done over dialup.
You other Hughesnet sufferers might look into Sprint or Verizon "Mobile Broadband" service. You just plug an "aircard" type USB device in and get service over cell towers. I've heard some say it is far better than Hughesnet. I think it is cheaper too.
Think I'll give it a try...

I also have the same problem. I called Hughes and they said that the update will work after 2:00 am eastern time. I have updated several times and have not had a problem after 2:00 am. They also said to try to use a down load manager to set a time to download TC data. Has anyone tried this approach? I am not sure if this can even be done with the TC plateform. Has tech support any suggestions?
Thank You,
Ward1

Can anyone share experience with downloads to Blocks over Hughes Net?
Are the same issues present there?
The recent "Internet connection Failed" message is getting VERY OLD!
The secret to curing it is....update betwen 11:00 pm and 7:00am.
Not terribly convenient.
Thanks,
Toby

I answered my own question.
Downloaded Blocks, installed flawlessly, updated with NO problem.
Internet connection did not fail.
Telechart still will not complete download.
Curious. Go figure!
Somehow I don't think Hughes Net is the problem.
