Hi,

I've searched around and can't find the answer to the following question.

I use TC2000 as my data provider. I'd like to export the symbol data so that it can be consumed my Metastock 9.0 EOD. There seems to be a limitation as to the number of symbols that can be exported at a single time.

I frequently backtest my strategies over several thousand symbols.

How can I export the "all stocks" watchlist without repeating the same steps dozens of times?

Thanks,
BT

As of right now, you can't. Metastock will not provide us with their developer kit so we can only export using the old format with the 255 symbol limit.

I suspect that you can contract with a third party who is licensed to use the MDK to create the necessary module. MS's agreement does not preclude someone from creating such a tool, or from selling it to you.

I just installed TC2005 (March 3, 2005) and find that I can not export to the Metastock format. When will this capability be made available?

The last I heard, we are still working with Metastock to get this up and running in TeleChart 2005. I do not have a target date to give you, but you can check back here, and we'll post when the Metastock export becomes functional.

You mean the TC2000 data will not export into MetaStock? Have they changed the data? I used to be able to do so but have been out of the market awhile and just signed up again. However, I use MS quite a bit and if the data won't export, I'm handcuffed.

Actually, the Metastock export hasn't been released as you'll see if you select it under Databank | Smart Export. We're still doing some testing on this utility to make sure it works.

at (removed by Moderator) I found the Metastock API supports 2000 securities per folder. Why TC cannot do that with the Export feature? MetaStock doesn't give TC permissions to do that? I found an alternative solution: use Convert2MetaStock from (removed by Moderator). Since TC can export all to an ASCII file, we can use Convert2MetaStock to convert that to the metastock file. This works theoretically, but I never tried it. Very glad to hear from somebody who has the actual experience.

I still use ver. 5.3 to download data because I can update my metastock files (one-by-one-by-one, ect). Today there was a message saying that the cd would expire this weekend. So, how do I update my metastock files now?

Is this for 2005 or an update for 2000?

If it is an update for 2005, mine is behind and I thought that it "updated" everytime you loaded it? Am I incorrect?

I, also, need MetaStock format export that isn't in my version.

It does. We have not activated this new version for the automatic update yet. Eventually you will be notified and asked to update when you open the program. StockGuy is giving you guys on the forums a change to get it early.

Version 5.x/2.x has no more updates. All updates are for TeleChart2005.

...and that is the version with the functional MetaStock format.

Go to DATABANK|SMART EXPORT and choose MetaStock.

If it does not work go to the link again and REPAIR. You have the new version... it is .00026.

lol, You weren't on the other end of the conversation I had with your support Thur PM. I wasn't a happy camper, but it is solved now. It looks like the default location is \Telechart\User\Metastock instead of having a separate folder on the hard drive. Why the change? Just to make it all in one sub-directory instead of spread out?

Not sure why there was a change. I do believe they had to rebuild the export from scratch.

That's just the default export folder. You can set any path you want for the export.

I got it to update after using the repair option.
Then I changed the default location back to what it was on MS 5.03 version: c:\metastock data\(name of my file)\
I still have to update one file at a time. Wish I could make a list of files and they would update all at once.

Any idea what the metastock export symbol limit is now? It used to be 255.

Thanks, Ben
