Trainer,
Need to write a PCF that will scan for charts that are forming an 'Ascending Triangle (AT)'. Cite below defines & shows exactly the type pattern I'm trying to find.
http://www.investopedia.com/terms/a/ascendingtriangle.asp#axzz2FJOTjg8L
Can you help write a PCF that can ID such a pattern BEFORE it breaks thru resistance? Want to use on "daily" & also intraday. Once we have a PCF to find the AT pattern then I'd like to have an Easy Scan that adds a PCF for also finding Increasing Vol. along with the AT patt.
Appreciate the help.
Thx

I do not know of an automated method of implementeding the Investopedia definition in TC2000 as I do not know of a method to automatically determine "trendlines".
Trendlines are for the most part determined by visual inspection. Any automatic trendline detection method with which I am familiar is too complicated to create as a Personal Criteria Formula (the Finding Continuation Triangles And Wedges With Telechart topic referenced below uses Linear Regression Lines as fairly reasonable stand-ins).
You may wish to review the following for information on pattern recognition in TC2000 (the topics mentioning flags, pennants, triangle and wedge patterns will be most on target):
Falling wedge
Cup with a handle formation
PCF for cup with a handle
Scanning for Chart Patterns
Scanning for Stocks Printing a Double or Triple Bottom
PCFs for pennants and flags
PCF's for Triangles
Does TeleChart support Elliott Wave indicators?
Double top/bottom trend
Finding Double Tops and Double Bottoms
CUP AND HANDLE AGAIN
Finding Continuation Triangles And Wedges With Telechart
Cup & Handle PCF
Double tops and bottoms
Flag wedge and pennant pcf

That said, I personally do not think complex pattern recognition is practical in TC2000 using formulas and Scans. They are at the very least beyond my abilities to help you create without a specific unambiguous objective definition of what you are attempting to identify (it can't be an I know it when I see it type of definition or be based entirely on an image). This is true of pattern recognition in general with the exception of fixed size candlestick patterns (which are fairly straightforward as long as the pattern is well defined):

Bruce,
Thx for the info you did provide. There are a few ideas there, however, this pattern scan would be very useful to many of us. Apparently someone at Worden does this type of PCf work since there already other bullish & bearish predefined patterns in TC2000. Could you forward this request to the head of your dept for consideration & distribution to whoever developed the predefined patterns now in TC. Maybe in next version update they would have a new scan for Triangles for all of us to use.
Thx
Ken D.

Almost all of the Personal Criteria Formulas for bullish and bearish patterns you mention are for the candlestick patterns that I pointed out were possible to create in my original response.
The best topic to review in the original response is the Finding Continuation Triangles And Wedges With Telechart topic. I would also review the Trading the Flag and Pennant Patterns webinar. It doesn't really explore automatic identification to a great extent, but it is still a relatively detailed exploration of the topic.
The big problem is coming up with an unambiguous objective definition which can be realized in a short enough way using the Personal Criteria Formula Language. We can certainly try to expand on the techniques used in the previous topics (or if you have some ideas of your own?).

Not all of them. Also someone in one of the ref you provided made an attempt to ID Triangles etc & it works a little. It is possible. Professionals at Worden expereinced in this area could do a better job. Would you pls pass request along as requested for the benefit of all of us.
Thx

I don't think you understand. I am the person other people inside of Worden Brothers go to if they want to get specific Personal Criteria Formulas written. There isn't some higher up "professional" to ask who is better at writing PCFs.

Are you the Dept manager? I previously spoke with a manager after going thru Mr Worden on another occasion. PLEASE pass to your Dept manager. I don't want to bother Mr Worden regarding. This request helps all of us.

The customer training department does not have a department head, but I have brought the topic to the attention of Patrick Argo (Chief Operating Officer of Worden Brothers, Inc.).

Thank you. That's all I was asking. Pls have Mr Argo contact me after he reviews the posts I've sent you. Maybe your programmers could be helpful in some way. Maybe an outside source. This is something for everyone not just one person. A significant improvement to TC2000 for all. Technical traders trade patterns & TC2000 is a very powerful tool.
