This has probably been asked before, but I am trying to calculate the TRIN - sometimes callled the ARMS index. It is calculated as (# stocks adv / # stocks declining) / (Vol of adv stocks / vol of decl stocks)

I am able to figure out the numerator of stock counts within StockFinder, but getting a summation of advancing volume and declining volume so I can divide them is where I need help.  I have some experience with RealCode so writing a program shouldn't be a problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreiciated.

The Arms Index is also know as TRIN and is available under the symbol TRIN-X. You may also wish to review the following:

Market Stats, TICK and TRIN
Worden’s Market Indicators (T2s)

If you need to calculate it for an arbitrary WatchList, you may wish to review the TICK and TRIN Intraday chart for NASDAQ topic.

Hi Bruce - thanks for your response.

The fact that TRIN is its own symbol is pretty cool, but therin also lies my problem.  I have one pane calculating new highs and lows, and another pane showing the S&P 500 as its own symbol.  Can I have the S%P 500 in one pane and the TRIN in another, thus seeing everything on one chart?

If I'm understanding your question correctly, you would just add a Price for Symbol Indicator to your Chart and change the symbol for that Indicator to TRIN-X.

Not sure I follow, so just to make sure we are on the same page.

I would like one chart with:
pane 1 showing the S&P 500 (or some other market index),
pane 2 showing the TRIN -X and
pane 3 (or more) with my own custom indicators that I have created.

adding the price for symbol indicator is where I got lost.

Thanks!

The Price for Symbol Indicator is an Indicator like any other Indicator and is added exactly the same way. Select Add Indicator | Select... | Price for Symbol. Once it is added, left-click on to bring up its Edit window and change the Symbol to TRIN-X.

Whoa - I didn't you could do that!

I thought I had read the user guide, wonder what else I'm missing.....

That's awesome, thanks so much, plus it gives me an extra feature to utilize.
