TeleChart version 12 implements Elder's Force Index, Elder Ray Bear Power and Elder Ray Bull Power, but does not specifically implement the Elder Impulse System.

If you specify the details of how you want the Elder Impulse System displayed in TC2000 version 12, we will do our best to help you implement it as closely as possible. There are a range of topics available on implementing the Elder Impulse System in TeleChart 2007. They might give you some ideas on the techniques whiich have been used previously.

PCF for Elder Impulse System
Dr. Alexander Elder's "Elder-Ray"
Method for displaying Elder impulse system using Data bar
Blocks for Elder Ray
Elder's Triple Screen #1 - Weekly Chart
Elder Impulse System

Anything related to Weekly Personal Criteria Formulas would be much easier to implement in TC2000 version 12 however as you can just specify the formula as Weekly when creating or editing the formula. Any Weekly formulas from TeleChart 2007 should not be used in TC2000 version 12 if you want to match the charts as the Weekly charts in TeleChart 2007 are based on 5-Trading Day Rolling Bars while the Weekly Charts in TC2000 version 12 are based on calendar weeks.

Im completely new, still trying to get a handle on TC2000 v12 and wanting to format my charts in weekly and daily for the Elder impulse system. I'm wanting a basic interpretation of the system in which the bar turns green when the slope of the 13 day eMA is up and MACD histogram is rising, turns red when the 13 day eMA is falling and MACD histogram is falling and blue when neither of the two preceding criteria is met. I've looked at some of the threads above but am still confused as to exactly implement this system in TC2000.Any basic help is greatly appreciated.

I cannot think of way to do exactly what you want in either TeleChart 2007 or TC2000 version 12.

Although, I am not quite sure. I believe. There is a way to do it with the Custom Percent True PCF Indicator (thanks DiceMan). After, you put in the formula. Color Code it to your liking.

Hi Bruce

I would like to use elements of Elder's Impulse System using TC2000 Version. I am at a beginner level with TC2000. I am using version 12.0.4276.26840 (not sure if this is the latest version)

I would like to

a) have a scan that gives a list of symbols that mean each of the signals listed below; Each of the signals are indepedent

d) color the bar where the signal happened (different for each signal); not sure if this is possible in TC2000

Can this be done? If so, what would be steps to do it?

Interval: Weekly bars, daily bars, hourly bars

Price: Close

Signal 1:
EMA slope is UP and MACD Histogram slope is UP

Signal 2:
EMA slope is UP and MACD Histogram slope is DOWN

Signal 3:
EMA slope is DOWN and MACD Histogram slope is UP

I think determination of the starting point of the slope for EMA is where there the EMA changes direction

I think determination of the starting point of the slope for the MACD Histogram is where Histogram bar peaks for postive, and lowest bar for negative

Thanks!

The Elder Impulse System traditional treats both the EMA and MACD Histogram being up compared to the previous bar as a buy signal:

XAVGC13 > XAVGC13.1 AND XAVGC12 - XAVGC26 - XAVG(XAVGC12,9) + XAVG(XAVGC26,9) > XAVGC12.1 - XAVGC26.1 - XAVG(XAVGC12.1,9) + XAVG(XAVGC26.1,9)

And both the EMA and MACD Histogram being down compared to the previous bar as a sell signal:

XAVGC13 < XAVGC13.1 AND XAVGC12 - XAVGC26 - XAVG(XAVGC12,9) + XAVG(XAVGC26,9) < XAVGC12.1 - XAVGC26.1 - XAVG(XAVGC12.1,9) + XAVG(XAVGC26.1,9)

A mix where the EMA and MACD are going in opposite directions such as the EMA being up while the MACD Histogram is down:

XAVGC13 > XAVGC13.1 AND XAVGC12 - XAVGC26 - XAVG(XAVGC12,9) + XAVG(XAVGC26,9) < XAVGC12.1 - XAVGC26.1 - XAVG(XAVGC12.1,9) + XAVG(XAVGC26.1,9)

Or the EMA being down while the MACD Histogram is up:

XAVGC13 < XAVGC13.1 AND XAVGC12 - XAVGC26 - XAVG(XAVGC12,9) + XAVG(XAVGC26,9) > XAVGC12.1 - XAVGC26.1 - XAVG(XAVGC12.1,9) + XAVG(XAVGC26.1,9)

Are normally seen as being more neutral in nature.

If use the formulas a Condition Formulas, you can edit the Time Frame of the Condition Formula when it is created or edited by using the Time Frame drop-down menu in the formula editor.

It is not possible to use these Condition Formulas to color the bars in TC2000, but you could use them as the Boolean Formula in a Custom PCF % True Indicator to plot when they are true. A Custom PCF % True Indicator uses the same Time Frame as the chart.

There isn't anything more you should have to do. Have you checked through your bulk mail and/or spam folders to make sure the email didn't get sorted out of your inbox?

Hi Bruce,

I picked up Elder's latest edition of one of his books, and am getting acquainted with his Impulse methodology.

Just curious. I've been away from PCFs for a while, what portion of the PCFs below represent:

  • EMA of the current bar?
  • EMA of the previous bar?
  • MACD Histogram of the current bar?
  • MACD Histogram of the previous bar?

Knowing the individual components will help me understand the PCFs.

Thanks!!

Hi Bruce,

I know you can't paint bars in TC2000 - what's the easiest/best way to display a row of colored dots (red, green, blue) for the Elder Impulse sell, buy, and neutral signals, respectivey?

Bonus question: I'm using Elder Impulse on 5-minute charts at the moment. Can I plot dots from the 30-minute timeframe on my 5-minute chart? That would help, so I don't have to switch between 30-minute and 5-minute charts as often.

Thanks!

The best way to do this is to create a Custom PCF Indicator and divide the value you want to plot by the ABS() of the Condition Formula you want to use for that color. So let's say you wanted to plot a dot at 0 for the first formula from my Wednesday, February 22, 2012 9:16:12 AM ET post.

0 / ABS(XAVGC13 > XAVGC13.1 AND XAVGC12 - XAVGC26 - XAVG(XAVGC12,9) + XAVG(XAVGC26,9) > XAVGC12.1 - XAVGC26.1 - XAVG(XAVGC12.1,9) + XAVG(XAVGC26.1,9))

If you wanted to plot that at the closing price instead, you would replace the first 0 (zero) with a C.
