Do you know of a good indicator/formula to scan for uptrending stocks?

There are so many methods.

It would all depend on what you call a
trend and what you were trying to do.

ADX

Higher highs, higher lows above major moving averages.

Percent change over time.

Linear regression percent slope sort.

Even the HNC/Guppy moving averages are a type
of up-trend trading.

(the "long" mavs determine the trend while the "short" mavs
determine entry/exit)

All things being equal I tend to focus on the strongest
stocks in a group.

(that's what pointed me to CG in another list of stocks
that you gave)

Thanks

My main scan looks for just that type of stock, uptrending, and very simple, at least for my style. Simply add to your scan where the 50-day moving average is equal to or higher than the 200-day, and price is equal to or higher than the 50-day.

I have been experimenting with this:

Select:

Chart Template
Add indicator
Indicator

Use the formula:

ABS(C>AVGC50ANDAVGC50>AVGC200ANDMAXH63>MAXH63.1)*250

Set your smoothing average to 250 and make
your smoothing average simple.
(not exp!!)

This will "count" how many times in the past year a stock
was above the 50 and 200 and made a new 63 day high.

You can click on the plot and choose sort by actual value.
(to find the best in your watchlist)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have also noticed if you click on the plot and choose
"add indicator" and add a 100 day simple moving average
it defines if a stock is a "good tradable" or not.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm using the SP-500 watchlist. If you look at:

ETR

It was a bad tradable in approx 9/7/05
and became good in 9/28/06
(based on the relationship of the 100 day mav)

MAT became good in 7/25/06.

DTV became good in 3/24/06
------------------------------------------------------

I define "good tradable" as something that
has better odds of success when traded by
standard means. Breakout, MACD up-turn,
RSI, Stoc up-turn, dual mav cross, and so on.

Obviously all the parameters in this can be adjusted
to suit your tastes.

Thanks

Thanks for another classic contribution from one of the Masters.

I have already checked this out Diceman and it shows great promise. I validated my long term holds and they all look good with this new indicator you have designed.

I will name a New Template in your honor...
