Mid April the indicators took-off on IYH, so I realized a quick $500 on a 4/20 trade. Since then the indicators continue to fly, yet the price has fallen $1.
I'm looking at the following: TSV 18, MS, BOP, OBV, RSI ROC, TSV 21 ROC They're all soaring!
IYH price seems to follow (loosly) UNH (also a $500 booked on 4/28). Also follows (loosly) AMGN (also a $600 profit booked on 4/27). Yet the indicators on UNH & AMGN are quite the opposite of IYH and each are only ~5% of IYH holdings.
IYH looks like a good entry point here, but I'm questioning TC reliability on this symbol. Any thoughts?

Did you evaluate the success of your indicator set on IYH in the past before making the trade?
How well did they work in the past before 4/20?
If they worked well, how long did they come to realization in price? Longer than two weeks?
It is also crucial to remember that NO INDICATOR SET works on any ticker EVERY TIME (though that would be nice).

Once you are in the trade - the indicator is you. Make sure to indicate properly or your winners can quickly turn into losses, a process the indicators will not tell you. Don't leave much $ on the table. good luck

I've heard strange things about the volume in ETFs. The sellers of them can create liquidity even when trading volume is not there.
My guess is things that use volume in their calculation: OBV, TSV, MS, BOP and so on can be giving false readings because of this.
If you want to trade ETFs I would focus on things that are more price based. Moving averages, ROC, RSI, STOC, Chart patterns, support and resistance, breakouts and so on.
Thanks

if something is not working out the way you are expecting, the prudent course is to "bail". (of course, in hindsight you will wish you had not, if the thing works out anyway - for some unexplained reason). however, if you want to have a "system", then you cannot let these things go when it is not perfoming as expected.
if you are letting the trade run "out of system" then you are just "hoping" that somehow it works out. that is not technical analysis - that is gambling; a game of chance.

So you joined in 2004, and your one and only post since then was to respond to a thread that has been dead for 4 years? Perplexing!

So the second post should be in 2014 and be in one of the live topics now?
Thanks

dishannon, maybe you are new in the context of getting your feet wet with posting to forums; even though you've been a member for some time. Please don't be dissuaded from posting here. Keep at it. We need more active participants to keep the discussions lively and beneficial.

Lively and beneficial, seems like a contradiction in terms, something like beauracratic intelligence.

TD just a little humor to keep things LIVELY. Wouldn't want anyone dozing off while visiting the forum.

Diceman: Did you have to write a new program to calculate the proper date for the next post? Well at least Worden's can count on DJ to continuously reup, so he can make his second post in 2014. That is if the Mayan calendar is wrong.
