I don't understand the help file's definition of "beta".

Does beta track the correlation of a stock's price to the market price?

Does it measure relative volatility?

Does it have to do with earnings or some other fundamental?

I hope you'll clarify this for me.

Thank you, Pat

Hi -  This Custom Indicator:

Trend Entry: ( (H+L+2*(O+C))/6 > AvgC10 + SQR(( ( C*C +C1*C1 +C2*C2 +C3*C3 +C4* C4 +C5*C5 +C6*C6 +C7*C7 +C8*C8 +C9*C9 ) - ( 10 * AvgC10 *AvgC10 ) ) / 9 ) ) * ( H < AvgC40 + 3*SQR(((C0*C0 +C1*C1 +C2 *C2 +C3*C3 +C4*C4 +C5*C5 +C6*C6 +C7 *C7 +C8*C8 +C9*C9 +C10*C10 +C11*C11 +C12*C12 +C13*C13 +C14*C14 +C15*C15 +C16*C16 +C17*C17 +C18*C18 +C19*C19 +C20*C20 +C21*C21 +C22*C22 +C23*C23 +C24*C24 +C25*C25 +C26*C26 +C27*C27 +C28*C28 +C29*C29 +C30*C30 +C31*C31 +C32*C32 +C33*C33 +C34*C34 +C35*C35 +C36*C36 +C37*C37 +C38*C38 +C39*C39 ) - ( 40 * AvgC40*AvgC40 ) ) / 39 ) ) * (2 - ( H-C < (H-L)/3 ) - ( SQR((( C*C +C1 *C1 +C2*C2 +C3*C3 +C4*C4 +C5*C5 +C6 *C6 +C7*C7 +C8*C8 +C9*C9 +C10*C10 +C11*C11 +C12*C12 +C13*C13 +C14*C14 +C15*C15 +C16*C16 +C17*C17 +C18*C18 +C19*C19 ) - ( 20 * AvgC20*AvgC20 ) ) / 19 ) > SQR((( C1*C1 +C2*C2 +C3*C3 +C4*C4 +C5*C5 +C6*C6 +C7*C7 +C8*C8 +C9*C9 +C10*C10 +C11*C11 +C12 *C12 +C13*C13 +C14*C14 +C15*C15 +C16 *C16 +C17*C17 +C18*C18 +C19*C19 +C20 *C20 ) - ( 20 * AvgC20.1*AvgC20.1 ) ) / 19 ) ) )

works on all time frames down through 15 minutes.  But in 10,5,or 1 minute time frames, instead of displaying on the screen, the title of the CI in the lower windows shows:

FORMULA ERROR Trig Error)1 Period.

When I edit the CI and click on "Test", the CI value is calculated, but it isn't displayed on the screen.  (The visible box is checked.)

I don't see anything which might be mistaken for a trigonometry reference in the formula.

Can you help?

Thanks,

Thanks Diceman.  I wasn't aware that formulas weren't allowed as arguments to AVG or XAVG.

Hi -
I want a 10 day exponential moving average of ((C+H+L)/3)

When I use XAVG((C+H+L)/3,10) and test it, the calculation is made, but in the text box showing the results, I get XAVGError, followed by the calculation.

The same thing happens when I try a simple moving average.

Can you tell me what's wrong?

Thank you,   Pat

Can you point me to where I might find PCFs for chart patterns such as triangles, pennants, flags, etc.?

Thank you, Pat

Craig - Thank you! This is just what I was looking for. With youe PCF as an example, I'll be able to write PCFs for two different moving averages and watch the stocks I find for price breakdowns through the SMAs.

Jim - Thanks to you too. How on earth did you zone in on an example that ilustrated so well the error of my assumptions? I'll use two SMAs & I believe I'll get the result I'd been hoping for.

Thanks again, pmckeon

I agree that my first post was't very specific. It seems to be a problem with me.

What I'm looking for is a way to scan for stocks whose AVGC20 has been rising for 40 - 60 days, with price above the SMA for almost all of the time. I want to watch for price violations of the rising moving average.

I've tried several approaches, but I believe it can be done better.

Can you point me to PCFs that would help me find stocks in strong 40 - 60 day uptrends? I'm interested in your approach; mine's not very good.
