Last closed candle indicators Rate this Topic:

Hello Bruce,
I have a need for the following indicators based on Last closed candle (not on the current candle).
  1. What is the formula for Ichimoku Cloud cross-over (long and short)? For example (long) - the last closed hourly candle has pierced out of the cloud whereas the preceding candle was in the cloud. Same thing for short where the last closed hourly candle has pierced out of the cloud whereas the preceding candle was in the cloud.
  2. What is the formula for heikin ashi cross-over (long and short)? For example (long), the last closed candle was green, and the preceding candle was red.
  3. what is the formula for RSI 60/40? For example (long) - the value of the last closed candle was >= 60 (This is not a cross over - just a plain reading for the last closed candle to be >=60 for long and <=40 for short.

Note that 1-bar ago versions of these formulas would involve adding 1 to all of the bars ago parameters, 2-bars ago versions would involve adding 2 to all of the bars ago parameters and 3-bars ago versions would involve adding 3 to all of the bars ago parameters.

For the most part, it would seem that the 1-bars ago and 2-bars ago versions of these formulas would be the only versions of interest except possibly for the switch between red and green Heiken-Ashi candles when the color is based on net change.

Now for the questions before I actually create the formulas of interest.

Are the candles in the Ichimoku Cloud cross-overs regular candles or Heiken-Ashi candles?

Must the entire candle be within the cloud or does only the high need to be in the cloud for a pierce up with only the low needing to be in the cloud for a pierce down?

Is the Color Based On setting of your Heiken-Ashi candles set to Net Change or Open vs Close?

What is the Period of your RSI indicator?

Is the RSI indicator the plain RSI indicator which is not Wilder's Smoothed or the RSI - Wilder's indicator which is Wilder's Smoothed?

Thanks Bruce - here are the answers to your questions:

The candles in the Ichimoku cloud are regular candles (not Heiken Ashi).

The candle needs to close above the cloud for a long alert and close below for a short alert.

The color based setting of Heiken-Ashi candles is Open vs Close

The RSI period is 14

The RSI indicator is Wilder's smoothed.

One issue - If everythingis referencing to the last closed candle, I am not sure why the scan results are changing within the hour ? I use all of the above three conditions together in my scan.

None of the formulas in my Thursday, August 22, 2013 3:07:05 PM ET post reference the current candle and they will not and do not change in value during the course of the current candle.

The only reasons I can think of for the values to change would be that you are actually using different formulas or that the refresh rate where they are being used is such that the the formulas are updated part way through the hour.

Note that if you use the formulas in a layout, the versions in the layout are copies. If you change the formula, it does not change the copy. You would have to delete and replace the version in the layout after you make any changes to the formula.

Thanks Bruce - going to give it another shot. I do not have formulas in the layout;. Basically I created them all as conditions and then added the conditions in an Easyscan. 

One little change if you could help please. For the Heiken Ashi check, could you modify it to remove the cross over and just base it on that for going long the previous closed candle has to be green and for going short the previous closed candle has to be red. (Om open versus close basis).

Thanks - will check tomorrow if the scan changes value again within the hour - I guess will turn the streaming scan off and manually run the scan throughout the hour.

Bruce you posted some formula for Close Cross Above Clouds (i thought the Hi Lo formula for calculation of the cloud line was displaced into the future (I AM SURE I AM MISSING SOMETHING)

Is the / 4  <----  the 4 what displace into the future

 

Also if i wanted to double the Cloud from the standard 9 26 52

Would i double your numbers in the formula  9.27 become 18.54 etc

 

I am wanting to have conditions as well Like Span A > Span B

If the /4 is the key ==== would this be A > B

(MAXH9.27 + MINL9.27 + MAXH26.27 + MINL26.27) /4 > (MAXH52.28 + MINL 52.28) / 4

Then to Cross Above Base Line == would this be

C1 > (MAXH26.26 + MINL26.26)  / 2 AND C2 <  (MAXH26.26 + MINL26.26) / 2

The / 4 is there to divide by four.

Even though the lines of the Ichimoku Cloud can be plotted into the future, all of the offsets are actually made into the past.

So MAXH9.27 is the highest high over the 9 bars ending 27 bars ago.

You can multiply all of the 9s, 26s and 52s in the formulas by two to get 18s, 52s and 104s.

But, you would need to multiply these bases and add the offsets in the original formulas if the formulas are using periods and offsets other than 9, 26 and 52.

For example, MAXH9.27 would become MAXH18.53 because 9 * 2 = 18 and 26 * 2 + 1 = 53.
