Sorry if i missed this, but i've been away from the bulletin board for a while. When SF5.0 first came out, the backscanner did not work correctly at all, and I had to reinstall version 4. About 6 months later I checked in here and found it still did not work correctly. I'm considering upgrading to V5 again, but want to make sure the backscanner is generally working. A status report would be appreciated. Thanks.

BackScanner is generally working in both StockFinder 4 and StockFinder 5. Neither works perfectly.

Thanks Bruce.
I see the following two comments on the website about the SF4 to SF5 update:
- Backscans cannot yet be saved.
- Backscanner cannot yet load a saved condition
Does this mean that backscans will be lost each time i shutdown SF or will they be saved as part of the layout?
Is a saved condition the same a rule?

BackScans cannot be saved on their own, but they can be saved as part of a Layout. You do not need to reconstruct a BackScan each time you start StockFinder.
The inability to load saved Conditions means you have to drag and drop the Conditions from the chart into BackScanner. No option is available to load a Condition that is not currently on the chart.
Conditions in StockFinder 5 are what Rules were in StockFinder 4. In StockFinder 5, the only place I think the Rule nomenclature is still used is within BackScanner. You drag and drop a Condition from the chart to use it as a Rule in BackScanner.

Bruce, thanks again. I use the Stockfinder primarily to backtest and trade systems. Do you recommend I upgrade from 4.0 to 5.0? and if so why?

For the most part, I would recommend upgraded from StockFinder 4 to StockFinder 5 or the StockFinder 5.1 beta because they contain a lot of bug fixes. That said, there are enough differences in the way they run that you might prefer StockFinder 4. You can have all three versions installed at the same time to try things out and see which you prefer.

How can I install SF4? I understand that price volatility real code from SF4 can run in SF5. SF5's does not seem to work.

StockFinder 4 is not really supported or available normally, but there is a StockFInder 4 Setup file available from the FTP server section of our online support files under technical support.
What issues are you having with your price volatility RealCode? Could you post the RealCode here?

Sorry I missed your response. When I try to plot price volatility in SF5.1 (from the predefined menu) I get a pane that is blank and the indicator header is MovAvg 21.

You need StockFinder Platinum to use or plot the built in fundamental system criteria in StockFinder.
