Anyone care to speculate how the health care stocks, (or for that matter the market in general) will react if this thing passes?
Thanks,

Health care stocks have been rallying as momentum has built for this bill passing, so I'm guessing its being viewed as a positive for HC stocks. The bill forces all Americans to buy health insurance...it's like a law passing that forces all Americans to go buy a car..that should be bullish for car stocks.
As for the rest of the market...it's anybodys guess. This bill hikes taxes on investment income & gains, higher taxes should be a net negative for economic growth, and mandates on small companies will be financially onerous. This could harm hiring and economic growth in general.
I'm guessing health care stocks = (+)
rest of market & economy = (-)
But I still don't really understand everything this bill does at this point, so this guess is completely off the cuff.

Agreed and understand. However, they will start taxing as of now. Next comes immigration reform. Who do you think runs the courts??? Liberals. I do hope you all enjoy trading. Because next will be the trader's tax. In my opinion, unless 2010 yeilds miracles, we are all f**ked. Sieg Heil!

the supreme court still has a conservation edge.
the states ag's are already filing lawsuits right and left.
reconciliation will never pass the senate.

Ever heard of the "Judiciary Reorganization Bill of 1937" ?
This isn't the first time that we've had a socialist government with a conservative Supreme Court ....

Oddly enough ... I have ....
However .... there is no one saying "Well let them eat cake ..."
This time Obama is saying ... "Feed them shit ... I can convince them it's cake ... "
Al Sharpton pretty much summed it up following the House passage of the bill ....
"I think that the president and Nancy Pelosi get credit," Sharpton said. "I think this began the transforming of the country the way the president had promised. This is what he ran on."
And if that transformation is socialism, then so be it, he explained. That is what the American public "overwhelmingly" voted for.

Social Security ( to those who have never paid into it)
Food Stamps
Welfare
The Great Society
How's all this working out??? Not too bad if you are on the receiving end.
Obama wants a legacy and this is it.

Sharpton's comment amounts to stupidity. The country did NOT overwhelmingly vote for socialism. He sounded so foolish the other night; as though he had no more depth than a high school freshman.

TB, up hear in New England Sharpton is viewed as a comedy character. On the talk shows they perform parody skits in relation to his strange opinions. I was not aware until just now that some folks actually take him serious.
The only part that is true in any of this is that America voted for Obama and that is what we have. We had to deal with Bush for 8 long and grueling years, This is a nice respite. The healthcare plan has been with Massachusetts already for some time. Like anything thing in life; you can piss and moan but we will not be able to measure the fall-out until after the next administration is in place.
Before all the doomsday anti Democratic jargon starts to poor in about how we are going to bankrupt this country, look I have been hearing that crap since I was a teenager and we are still here making money in the stock market..... Stop complaining and get on with life.

Yeah guys come on.
Every liberal knows massive spending and tax increases are fine as long as a liberal is dong it.
Wars are fine as long as a liberal runs them.
(why some of Bush's terror policies have actually become smart, who knew?)
Wire tapping is fine as long as a liberal does it.
Why even living in the ghetto is fine as long as you call it compassion.
(isn't the great society pure joy)
Its even possible that if we can get a hammer and sickle on the flag. Folks on
Apsll's side may develop too much respect to even burn it.
Please try and show the same dignity and respect for the office as Aspll did when Bush was president.
Remember, falling off the side of a 10 story building is "change".
(no one sad it had to be good )
Thanks

I knew that either RC or Diceman was going to be pushing their way to the front line on this one. It looks like Diceman won... Not a real shock there.
Lets not spend money within our own borders. Instead we need to spend all of it turning stones in the mid-east pissing off the muslims as we hunt for Bin Laden. There is that video we have of Saddam swinging from a rope of course; "One heck of an expensive pay per view".
Let me see who was next on Bushes hit list of Mideastern countries. Thank God his term was up....

If you thought the Messiah was going to have a four year reign...think again---the agenda is right on to immigration "reform"--to legalize ten million in order to keep perpetual power--because, of course, they will vote liberal. Welcome to "change"--and the good ol' days may not return...

Just like Hugo Chavez. I almost expect Obama to step up on stage one day just like Hugo with a piece of paper, telling the people this is now our new constitution. And then on to gun control. Welcome to the Great Society.
I'm sure some of you have heard of the trader's tax echoing through the halls of congress. With the taxes they plan to levy on traders, all of the small retail traders will be forced out of business.
Welcome to CHANGE!

Why would you let them put you out of business!! Put your money into a Roth and trade tax free. It just gves me more incentive to do better. And playing their game. In a Roth I am not paying taxes on my gains. The sign on my door is OPEN FOR BUSINESS.

I agree with Tiger. Why let the tax collector decide your fate. We have the government that we have. Just like a stocks price action or the Markets sentiment; You have to take control and adapt or roll over and play dead.
I live in Taxachusetts. If I had my way I would not pay any taxes of course but then who will protect our borders while we are trading? We are given the comforts to pursue our own destiny in this life and freedom does not mean that it is free. Nothing bothers me more than when I hear small talk about how someone beat the IRS by making up a fake "self owned business" and claiming all kinds of tax wright-offs. And then they brag about it.
When the Democrats are in office we Dems can breath easy for at least four years. Do not worry. The Republicans will have their chance to reclaim the office soon enough.

If you buy 1000 shares for $40 per share you pay $100 tax. If you sell the same shares a couple of minutes/hours later you pay a $100 again. Thats $200 in taxes. This is the end of the world for day and short term traders.
Tell me again how a Roth would save you?

Ya like they (congress) have been listening anyway?
Looks like this thread turned political...... Something I don't recall seeing here.
Since Bush destroyed this economy- uh ....
My business is off 70% & my hope & change is right here in my hands...
I'm not suprised by anything....
Anyone seen a powerpoint presentation- Re: Argentina?
Amazing how indoctrination of one generation and a media can change the tide.

Since this a stock forum I'll get back to that.

Apsll conveniently forgets 911.
(hey no skin off your back right?)
Today's "fighter" (no wonder where going down the tubes).
I could see you in WWII.
Don't fight the Germans.
Don't fight the Japanese.
They will get angry.
You tell of of the sacrifices we should make for our government
but forget the sacrifices made against our enemies for freedom.
That's what's nice about Hussein.
I don't have to change.
I'm still against. Tyranny, opresson, loss of freedom.
At least I don't have to call Petreus, Betray-us.
Thanks

Diceman, you have a lot of nerve playing the 911 card like this. Your senility is catching up with you old man. I might not have served in the armed forces during war time but I did serve. I put my time to good use as I started my Degree classes on my free time. Yes Uncle Sam paid for part of my tuition.
I do not think that you could see anything in WWII. Where do you come up with the idea that I am a "Pacifist"? I think that we should have used Nukes after 911. When someone commits a heinous crime such as mass murder you investigate find the responsible party and prosecute. You do not burn down Boston to find the Boston Strangler. If the investigative powers that be are not up to the task of bringing to justice the proper perps than that is not the fault of the entire Mideast. We should not be stepping on the world’s toes to justify war for greed and power.
You’re not against anything; you just like to hear yourself talk.

Taking Saddam Hussein out of power was part of the package deal. While I do not agree with the way the war was handled, and yes Bush did leave us a huge deficit, in hindsight it was neccessary. I agree 100% that we should have just turned Iraq into a giant glass parking lot. But typical politics gets in the way of everything. The way this war was handled was poorly planned.
War happens. Freedom comes at a price.

Does anyone not realize that there is already free health care in this country?
Here's how it works. I could be living a cardboard box down by the tracks. I OD on some bad drugs. Some good hearted person calls the ER squad, they have to take me to the nearest hospital for emergency care, just so happens the Mayo Clinic is around the corner. The Mayo Clinic cannot refuse giving me care, but all they have to do is stabilize me. (At no cost) Then they call back the ambulance which transports me to the nearest State operated hospital, where I receive all the FREE care needed for however long they decide to treat me. Then the State hospital sends the state a bill for my wonderful FREE care. Did I mention FREE = TAXPAYER MONEY. The state then sends the hospital a check for services rendered. You don't think that the hospital would pad the bill , do you? Of course not. What a wonderful system we have. I know how it works, I work at ( not for) a major state university hospital as a specialized contractor. Would anyone be interested in how much it costs taxpayers to give healhcare to convicts? You know those wonderful people who have committed crimes against good citizens.

Actually Diceman within johns lack of of ability to be witty I rather thought the joke was on you. After all you are the one in diapers......
In reference to the troops since we have no common point of reference I will just consider the source or rather the lack of one.
