I used to run it emulated via parralels on my mac and although patternz is free the meta software (I forgot the name at this moment) is not free. It pulls historical data from yahoo's finance server and formats correctly for import in patternz. So when the free trial ran out I couldn't utilize patternz anymore unless I wanted to manually edit the .csvs you could download from yahoo finance. The interface is so old on that software it ridiculous, it was made in windows 3.1

You don’t have to use the file format provided by Yahoo.
Patternz gives you the option of accepting Yahoo’s format or defining your own, which you also define before you export the data to your files by clicking Database > Export to Text.
My question is really about how useful it is in identifying stocks to add to the portfolio.

I use Recognia's pattern identification scan which comes free with a Trade King Account. i opened account expressly for the use of this service. I'd used it before as part as a subscription service and found it very helpful. I ultimately cancelled the subscription service because I thought it was too expensive...but always wanted to find the Recognia Service again. You get pattern recognition, price targets, and also short term japaneese candle patterns. You can seperate out top formations, bottom formations, head and sholders, Wedges, flags, etc. You can also set price, volume, inbound trend and pattern duration parameters. You can even set up a nightly scan and have it emailed to you, which is what I do.
Currently I use it as a market sentiment indicator. I have both tops and bottom formations emailed to me. I can always tell when a good bottom is coming in by the preopnderance of bottom patterns that arrive in my inbox. Tops are the opposite. I sugest Googling recognia. Their site has a wealth of information regarding pattern trading although they only sell their product to the institutions. But like I said, you can get it with a trade King account for free.

You can download the Patternz software for free. Just Google it.
It appears to work very well with TC2000 without requiring any other software.
I’m just learning it but I’m sure I’m going to like it. I’m having problems with watch lists. Any suggestions you may have will be appreciated.

Excellent. I'll take a look. After all Bulkowski is the master. His Encyclopedia of chart patterns is a must read. Can't wait to see how it works. Thanks.

Bcraig,
Downloaded Patternz, installed it and it's up and runing fine -- and for free! Great find. It will be a great educational tool, I can see that already. It display all patterns on the chart and I can review how and why they worked or didn't. Double and tripple bottoms appear to work on nearly every chart. I think you can scan for them as well. i donloaded the entire Russell 1000 to text format and could view any chart in that indext. Thanks again for the tip.

My pleasure I have been able to give a bit in return for all I have gotten from the in depth analyses you have posted.
