I am planning to add a few custom indicators to TC2000 - VHF, TRIX, KST etc. After creating a indicator and plotting it, I observe that the leading characters of the formula (not the PCF name) appear on the indicator screen. Is there a way to have the PCF name displayed rather than the leading part of the formula on the screen ? This would help me easily identify different custom formulas on various chart templates.

Any ideas on this one - I need to add a few custom indicators and I am looking for a neat way to distinguish them from one another on the screen. I need the PCF name/custom indicator name to get displayed on the screen and not part of the custom indicator formula.

Currently no way to do this, Satish, but it has already been submitted as a suggestion. I'm hoping this ends up in the next upgrade myself, but I haven't heard yet whether it will be.

Satish:

One of my co-workers just passed along this work-around to naming your custom indicators. Again, the suggestion to add custom indicator naming to the program has been submitted, but in the meantime, if you're willing to take a few extra steps, this may help you out. Give it a try.

1. The description or comment has to be the only thing on the first line of the custom indicator formula window. There needs to be a carriage return to the next line before starting the forumula. You may need to create your formula on notepad and copy it into the Custom Indicator Settings, because hitting Return (Enter) causes the Custom Indicator Window to close out.

2. Make sure you keep your comment as one word, using underlines to avoid spaces, for example, Hour_stoc.vol.

3. Avoid using mathematical operators, e.g. + - / * ( )

4. Start the comment with an underline character to improve reading.

5. Max is somewhere around 33 characters before causing an error. If there is less than 20 characters, it may cause the trash can icon to disappear. So your custom indicator name should be between 20 and 33 characters.

Example: _Daily_stox'vol.stoc_

I hope this helps, Satish.

The method that Doug outlined is partly correct.

I do NOT recommend putting the description alone on the top line ... rather, follow it by 2-4 spaces and let the formula stream on from there. Why? Just try it out both ways on a few indicators, and LOOK AT THE CHART TEMPLATE (the "I" key). There is a bug in the program than causes 90% of the icon-display associated with that indicator to be invisible if you use the new-line approach ... but if you use my method, there's no problem.

Secondly, you need to be very careful about what words or abbreviations you use in the title/comment. If anything appears that "looks like" a valid PCF operator or function, then the formula will fail. For example, if your title is "Shorthand Avgs", then it will fail because "Avg" is a valid TC function, and the "and" (in shorthand) & "or" (in short) are valid TC operators.

Btw, the need for a title for custom indicators was pointed out long before the release of 2.3/5.3, during alpha testing. Since they did not add it then, while it was still in development I sorta doubt it will be added any time soon ... unless the new version 6 rebuild provides an easy way to incorporate it. FWIW, JMHO :~)

As Tanstaafl pointed, I'm using version 6 now (08/08/09). The title for custom indicators still not released yet. I wonder when we can see this feature is implemented. :~)

dtrinh,
We do not normally discuss or comment on future features, services or products until they are actually released or officially announced. The best place to make suggestions for TeleChart would be the Comments/Suggestions forum.
