if I have determined a stock to be in an uptrend or downtrend, is there a way to write a pcf to catch it every time it comes back to or around its 20 period exponential moving average, i'm assuming it will take off again (in a uptrend) or be a good short candidate for those in a uptrend.

You can sort your WatchList by this condition:
100*ABS(((H+L)/2)-XAVGC20)/XAVGC20
Sort in ASCENDING order to rank the list by how close it is to the 20ema.

thanks craig, also, is there a way to sort by.....
ADX must be more than 30 and the +DI more than the -DI
or a pcf to help me with this?

YOu can sort by the ADX by right-clicking it. Check out this video: Sorting by the ADX indicator

thanks craig, I have checked out the posts and I am a little confused, I get the adx but is there a pcf that shows if a stocks +DI is more than the -DI (not a crossover) and +DI less than the -DI

Now apply the exponential equivalent of Wilders's smoothing to it, as a part of the CI definition: Exponential Pds = (Wilder Pds * 2) -1 = 14*2 - 1 = 27-day exponential smoothing.
Be sure to check "center zero line" when you plot it.
The resulting plotted line calculates virtually instantaneously (compared to all the other stuff, above).
Any time this line CROSSES ZERO, that's a place where the +DI and -DI lines had a crossover.
If this line is GREATER than zero, there is a BULLISH Directional Movement condition (i.e. the posDI line is above the negDI line), and vice versa for Bearish. While it can be used to detect crossovers, the last line of the quotation seems to indicate it will do what you want. You can use Indicator Sorting to find out if +DI or -DI is higher. thanks bruce, ok just to be clear, I plot Custom Indicator: (H0-H1)*(H0-H1>L1-L0)*(H0>H1) - (L1-L0)*(H0-H1<L1-L0)*(L0<L1) as a custom indicator and then I change the smoothing to 27? I guess I don't know what to do with Exponential Pds = (Wilder Pds * 2) -1 = 14*2 - 1 = 27-day exponential smoothing. I didn't know if I add that somewhere or that just reffered to inputing 27 into the smoothing?

If your DX Period is 5, you would use a Smoothing Period of 9 because (2 * 5) - 1 = 9.

sorry for the confusion bruce, basically instead of sorting, is there a way to write a pcf for my percent true indicator that will tell me if the above formula is above zero or below zero at that time, i'm not looking for crossovers, just above or below the zero line in a pcf

i was thinking it would be

You are correct that this is not right. A Personal Criteria Formula version would be much longer because the Exponential Moving Average needs to be expanded manually. The size also increases dramatically with increasing DX periods. Here's one way to write a formula testing for the +DI being above the -DI based on a relatively short DX Period of 5:

is that version showing greater than zero? if so, could you give me one with below zero? i know the pcf would be long but if you would find some extra time, could you provide me with both pcfs showing above and below zero with a 19, i would really appreciate that.

bruce last question I promise, would the formula be a lot smaller if it wasn't exponential? would the dx period of 27 still stay the same due to the calculations of switching from exp to simple?
If your DX Period is 14, you would use a Smoothing Period of 27 because (2 * 14) - 1 = 27. If your DX Period is 5, you would use a Smoothing Period of 9 because (2 * 5) - 1 = 9.

Yes, but isn't the point to match the relative positions of the +DI and -DI in the ADX indicator? A Simple Moving Average will not do this.

I am trying to build a custom indicator / percent true. 1st step, L=MINL21.1 2nd step is to use (L=MINL21.1) as a base plus 5 days, to see is the Close is Greater than the High at (L=MINL21.1). The purpose is to find legitimate bounces off extreme lows. The 3rd step is to add the following volume PCF’s, (V>AVGV21) and (V>V1*2), to see if the bounce is supported with buying. I can’t seem to tie the PCF’s together to get the desired results, where am I going wrong? WALTFIA

You want today's low to be the lowest low for 22 days (L=MINL21.1) and the volume today (V>V1*2) to be at least twice yesterday AND greater than the 1-month average (V>AVGV21). Correct?
Can you elaborate on step 2?

I would try it without the volume first to see if the price pattern is correct:
L5=MINL21.6ANDC>H5
Then you can experiment with volume levels.
There were only 38 stock "true" for the price pattern out of the All Stocks watchlist. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think you would get better results with something like:
C>MAXH5.1
or:
C>MAXH10.1
with your volume screens added.
