Support directed me here.

The custom formula xAvgC100-xAvgC100.5 gives me a FORMULA ERROR MESSAGE on several of my stocks. There is enough data and if I test the formula it will give me an value (answer). Thus the error is not in today's data but somewhere in the past. It is to many errors. For example:

Formula graphs on:
DROOY
MXICY
TGAL

Error message on:
TMTA
PMU
CHTR
PYR
UTSI

This formula graphs fine on my TeleChart for all five of the tickers that are giving you an error message. I'm not sure how to troubleshoot...and if it's a technical problem with your data, support would have to help (I know they sent you here).

Do this for me. Email support@worden.com the information you posted above. Ask them to test those tickers on their TeleChart. If the graphs work for them, then they will have a starting point to begin troubleshooting your TeleChart.

I get no error when plotting:

XAVGC100-XAVGC100.5

on these stocks in any zoom:

TMTA
PMU
CHTR
PYR
UTSI

Please double check your formula so it matches mine above.

I emailed support as Doug suggested.

Note: I am graphing on a weekly chart. Data is still there.

Thanks for looking,
Michael

Ah...

On a weekly chart your list of stocks will not work b/c they do not have enough bars to calculate and display your custom indicator. There is nothing support can do to fix this.

You can work around this by adding a 100-bar exponential moving average to the price THEN adding a 5-period Rate of Change to the 100-bar moving average.

Craig,

That workaround appears quite risky when there is too little data.

1) Place an ROC5 on an EMA100 on C.

2) Place an EMA100 on a PROC5.

When on "Weekly", the two give quite different results for TMTA. At least one of them is way off and they probably both yield results of little value when there is insufficient data.

Thanks,
Jim Murphy
