I would think most platforms would offer something.
The question would be how difficult it was to set up.

Tradestation allowed the sorting of 200 items.
(which I'm guessing would be ok for FX)
Of course you would need to be able to set it up.

However, that wasn't very good for stocks.
Telecharts plus is the ability to sort everything.

Thanks
diceman

 Hi Diceman,

Thanks for coming back to me above.  I believe freestockcharts.com has an FX feed, so i'll take a look at this to see if it's what i'm looking for.

Thanks again,

Worden's Free Stock Charts  www.freestockcharts.com has a forex data feed if you want to look at pair charts.  I cannot recommend other charting packages with a forex data feed.  I know there are several.

HI William 4567,

I wasn't aware that this package contained an FX feed, i've taken a quick look and it appears as though it might do the trick, thanks for letting me know.

darcy,

like you said Telecharts strength is scanning 7,000 stocks to find the ones that meet your criteria.

The FX market only deals with a handful of major currency pairs.  There are a few more minor currency pairs, but some of these are illiquid and spotty to trade.  So in effect, there are only about 10 currency pairs you should be worried about.  Why would you need a software program to sort through only 10 items?

I am aware of a program called autochartist that spots various technical patterns over different time frames, if that's maybe what you mean...otherwise, I'm not sure what you're really asking.

Hi Ben2k9,

i've heard of autochartist and it is a useful tool however it doesn't allow you to se up your own criteria and customise your scans to the level that telechart does.  It also is more geared towards intra day scans whereas i would be more of an intra day trader.  I take your point above that i probably only need to scan the majors and trade them due to the illiquid nature of  most other FX's, still it would be useful to have a tool to scan these every day.  william4567 has suggested the freestocharts.com package from Worden that includes an FX feed so I will take a look at this and see if it will suit my needs.

Thanks again,
Darcy54.

hi guys,

i think we all agree that one of the main strenghts of telechart is its ability to scan any market in mere seconds to return a list of stocks according to your criteria.  Great!! Does anybody know of such a scanner/tool that can be used to scan FX.  Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys,

Can you let me know if there's a post out there on how to use the daily worden reports.  I'd like information on the 16 indicators that are used and how they be used to identify short term trades.  I'm also looking for  a traninig video that describes the useful easy scans that can be used to identify opportunities for going short.

Thanks in advance,

Topic: What indicators do you guys mostly use?

funnymoney.. "Fundamentals will only cloud your thinking"

I appreciate that fundamentals can add extra variables to the mix but surely one needs to know if the stock they have invested in is a dog or not?

do any of you guys use any vendors services offering company ratings e.g. Investors Business Daily..

Thanks in advance,

Guys,

Just picking up on this post today and I’ve got to say there is some really great stuff in there. I agree with the general maxim of having less indicators or at least restricting their use to a couple that you are familiar and comfortable with. Just to add to the list I also use the 20, 50 & 200 DMA. I use volume and OBV in the middle window  however i was interested to hear about jlsmiths addition of the 50DMA to the volume bars in order to get a handle on the ‘normal’ daily volume – hadn’t occurred to me to apply this DMA to the volume – i will definitely take it for a test drive.

Now... what I wanted to get some opinion/advice on is where do you guys stand on fundamentals?? I believe there’s plenty of option on what technical’s to use or not use but surely we want to back these indicators up by sound fundamentals – especially if going long. I know this information is available on TC but do you believe it’s enough to rely & make decisions on. There are rating agencies and publications out there with their own company fundamental & industry rating e.g. IBD – what are you views on these. Do you subscribe and do you believe they are value for money.

Thanks in advance.

Topic: INDUSTRY SELECTION
Posted: Tuesday, April 21, 2009 1:55:19 AM

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to drop you a line to see if you know the best way to sort for leading/lagging industry sectors as a starting point to look for leading/lagging stocks in those industries.

I have looked in the Indexes Watchlist and added some of these to a personal watchlist BKX.X & BTK.X for example.  Should I just sort by this all Indices in this list to get those high/low performers?

Also, is 'Blocks' a tool specifically designed for scanning stocks as per criteria you specify or can this also be done (to a lesser extent probably) by setting up easy scans in Telechart.
