Greetings,

I am needing the PCF formulas for Wilder's RSI 5 period for 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 days ago. I did a search of previous posts and could not find these. Your help is greatly valued and appreciated.

Thank you, Joe

If Use Wilder's Smoothing is not checked in the indicator, then you can use the following Personal Criteria Formula for 5-days ago:

RSI5.1.5

The following PCF for 6 days ago:

RSI5.1.6

The following PCF for 7 days ago:

RSI5.1.7

The following PCF for 8 days ago:

RSI5.1.8

The following PCF for 9 days ago:

RSI5.1.9

And the following PCF for 10 days ago:

RSI5.1.10

If Use Wilder's Smoothing is checked however, you would need to use the following approximation for 5 days ago:

50 * (C5 - XAVGC9.6) / 5 / (.20001702 * (ABS(C5 - C6) + .8 * (ABS(C6 - C7) + .8 * (ABS(C7 - C8) + .8 * (ABS(C8 - C9) + .8 * (ABS(C9 - C10) + .8 * (ABS(C10 - C11) + .8 * (ABS(C11 - C12) + .8 * (ABS(C12 - C13) + .8 * (ABS(C13 - C14) + .8 * (ABS(C14 - C15) + .8 * (ABS(C15 - C16) + .8 * (ABS(C16 - C17) + .8 * (ABS(C17 - C18) + .8 * (ABS(C18 - C19) + .8 * (ABS(C19 - C20) + .8 * (ABS(C20 - C21) + .8 * (ABS(C21 - C22) + .8 * (ABS(C22 - C23) + .8 * (ABS(C23 - C24) + .8 * (ABS(C24 - C25) + .8 * (ABS(C25 - C26) + .8 * (ABS(C26 - C27) + .8 * (ABS(C27 - C28) + .8 * (ABS(C28 - C29) + .8 * (ABS(C29 - C30) + .8 * (ABS(C30 - C31) + .8 * (ABS(C31 - C32) + .8 * (ABS(C32 - C33) + .8 * (ABS(C33 - C34) + .8 * (ABS(C34 - C35) + .8 * (ABS(C35 - C36) + .8 * (ABS(C36 - C37) + .8 * (ABS(C37 - C38) + .8 * (ABS(C38 - C39) + .8 * (ABS(C39 - C40) + .8 * (ABS(C40 - C41) + .8 * (ABS(C41 - C42) + .8 * (ABS(C42 - C43) + .8 * (ABS(C43 - C44) + .8 * (ABS(C44 - C45) + .8 * (ABS(C45 - C46) + .8 * (ABS(C46 - C47)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) + 50

Bruce,

Thank you. I guess I didn't clarify that I was needing this formula for a PCF to use in a scan, not as an indicator.

Thank you,

Joe

The formula for RSI itself is going to be the same no matter if it is being used as an Indicator Formula which returns a numeric value or it is incorporated into a larger Condition Formula which compares this value in some way to something else such as another indicator of fixed value.

The references to the Use Wilder's Smoothing setting in the indicator are because the RSI actually has different values depending on if this option is selected or not. You need to know the settings of the indicator for which you are attempting to create a formula to be able to create a formula for the values of the indicator 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 bars ago.

What are the specifics of the conditions you are attempting to create?

Bruce,

Just a normal J. Welles Wilder RSI as found in most charting pachages such as esignal, but set at 5 period. If I'm not mistaking, it looks like the formulas you provided above should work.

I do appreciate your help on this.

Thank you, Joe

Based on your most recent post, you probably want the longer Wilder's smoothed versions of the formulas.

OK. Where would I find those then? Several years ago you had also provided me with the PCF forumlas for scans for  what I thought was 5 period Wilder's RSI for today, one day, two days and three days ago. Those look to be very similar to what you show above. Are they not the correct formulas then for J. Welles Wilder's RSI?

Changing the setting of the Wilder's RSI changes both its values and the formulas which would be required to calculate those values. If a third party program does not have the ability to choose if Wilder's smoothing is used or not, then it is probably being used (so the same as Use Wilders Smoothing being checked in TC2000 version 7).

I am pretty sure you are referencing the following topic:

Wilders 5 period RSI yesterday

I provided formulas for both the non-Wilder's Smoothed and Wilder's Smoothed versions of Wilder's RSI in that topic as well.

There is a gap in that I haven't yet provided Indicator Formulas for 4-bars ago, but they were not requested. The plain RSI which does not use Wilder's Smoothing for 4-bars ago would be:

RSI5.1.4

While the version for use with a Wilder's RSI with Use Wilders Smoothing checked would be:

50 * (C4 - XAVGC9.5) / 5 / (.20001702 * (ABS(C4 - C5) + .8 * (ABS(C5 - C6) + .8 * (ABS(C6 - C7) + .8 * (ABS(C7 - C8) + .8 * (ABS(C8 - C9) + .8 * (ABS(C9 - C10) + .8 * (ABS(C10 - C11) + .8 * (ABS(C11 - C12) + .8 * (ABS(C12 - C13) + .8 * (ABS(C13 - C14) + .8 * (ABS(C14 - C15) + .8 * (ABS(C15 - C16) + .8 * (ABS(C16 - C17) + .8 * (ABS(C17 - C18) + .8 * (ABS(C18 - C19) + .8 * (ABS(C19 - C20) + .8 * (ABS(C20 - C21) + .8 * (ABS(C21 - C22) + .8 * (ABS(C22 - C23) + .8 * (ABS(C23 - C24) + .8 * (ABS(C24 - C25) + .8 * (ABS(C25 - C26) + .8 * (ABS(C26 - C27) + .8 * (ABS(C27 - C28) + .8 * (ABS(C28 - C29) + .8 * (ABS(C29 - C30) + .8 * (ABS(C30 - C31) + .8 * (ABS(C31 - C32) + .8 * (ABS(C32 - C33) + .8 * (ABS(C33 - C34) + .8 * (ABS(C34 - C35) + .8 * (ABS(C35 - C36) + .8 * (ABS(C36 - C37) + .8 * (ABS(C37 - C38) + .8 * (ABS(C38 - C39) + .8 * (ABS(C39 - C40) + .8 * (ABS(C40 - C41) + .8 * (ABS(C41 - C42) + .8 * (ABS(C42 - C43) + .8 * (ABS(C43 - C44) + .8 * (ABS(C44 - C45) + .8 * (ABS(C45 - C46)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) + 50

Oh, got it. When you posted that I probably wanted the longer version I thought you were refering to some other formula. Thank you very much for the help and also for the formula for 4 days ago. I may need that some day also.

Thank you again and have a good day, Joe
