please forward formulas for followig ror daily charts

1 ) engulfing body in general

2 ) Bullish engulfing

3 ) Bearish engulfing

The formula I tried included wicks that were both higher and lower than previous body in scans I tried and as such is not an engulfing body

Thanks

Jeff

Different candlestick devotees have entirely different definitions for the same terms.

Your particular definition of an engulfing candle seems to require the top of the current body to be above the entire previous candle and the low of the current body to be below the entire previous candle and I am sure I could find plenty of websites which agree. But the very top search result on Google for engulfing body claims the "body does not necessarily engulf the shadows".

A Condition Formula for the body of the current candle to extend beyond the entire previous candle in both directions could be written as:

(O + C - ABS(O - C)) / 2 < L1 AND H1 < (O + C + ABS(O - C)) / 2

A Condition Formula for the white body of the current candle to extend beyond the entire previous black candle in both directions could be written as:

O < L1 AND C1 < O1 AND H1 < C

A Condition Formula for the black body of the current candle to extend beyond the entire previous white candle in both directions could be written as:

C < L1 AND O1 < C1 AND H1 < O

If these Condition Formulas do not meet your requirements, you will need to provide your particular  unambiguous objective definitions of Engulfing Body, Bullish Engulfing and Bearish Engulfing candlestick patterns.
