I need help creating two conditions. One that will filter stocks from my watchlist that 1) have their MACD is below the 0 line, with fast line doing a bullish xover thru the slow line, and 2) the 8-DEMA is below the 21-DEMA.And another that will sort stocks from that filtered list that have prices CLOSING above the 8-DEMA.Can you possibly help me set this up?Thanks so very much,Don

I am attaching a layout with the conditions you asked for (StockFinder 5). Simply download it into your MyDocuments/StockFinder5/(YourName)/MyLayouts folder. You can then open it with the New Layout/OpenFromFile menu in SF5.
I applied the filter/sort combination to the Russell 3000 but you can change it to any WatchList and it should automatically re-filter/re-scan for you.
Hope this helps.Attachments: Dondet Layout.sfLayout - 52 KB, downloaded 473 time(s).

Please take a look at two charts at www.detmavin.com/dd The top chart is the layout you graciously sent to me. (Thanks)Under that is the layout in MetaStock with corresponding setting. Both of these charts are daily charts. The price bars are identical, but the EMA's (8, 21) and MACD lines and histogram are way off. Why do they look so different? (The MetaStock chart corresponds very closely to Fidelity's ATP charting program.)Thanks again for your help,- Don

Don,
Because I don't know how MetaStock calculates the DEMA I really can't address that. As far as the MACD, are you using Simple moving averages in MetaStock?

I think the moving averages in Metastock are just exponential moving averages. I think 8-DEMA means "8 day exponential average". Correct?
The averaging on the MACD plots should be set to exponential.

If what StockGuy has noted is the case, the DEMA (double exponential moving averages) I put on price will not match your EMA on the MetaStock charts. Simply add regular moving averages to your price chart and set the type to Exponential and the periods to 8 and 21.

I have no idea how to tell how the MACD MA's are configured. They all seem to use the standard 12, 26, 9 settings. FreeStockCharts.com uses the same settings.Take a look at www.detmavin.com/dd/atpThis is Fidelity's Active Trader Pro's chart with the same indicators. They pretty much look like MetaStock and nothing like SF.Any ideas why SF looks so different?Thx.- Don

Set all of the average types on MACD to Exponential in StockFinder.

I made sure both charts are set with exponential indicators. SF chart still looks a lot different than MetaStock, ATP, and FreeStocksCharts.com.
Please see www.detmavin.com/dd/more
Thx.

Delete the two DEMA plots and then just add two moving averages to price and set the average type to exponential. The moving average and MACD plots on match the chart you posted from Metastock.
