need help with creating two pcf's Rate this Topic:

I am in need of help developing a PCF. The conditions for the PCF are numbered below for easier recognition.
 
1) This PCF will be looking back over a rolling period of 14 weeks to find stocks that have moved at least 100% within an 8 week period. This 100% move can happen during a session, closing prices are unecessary.
2) This PCF also needs to ensure that at the beginning of the move, the stocks' price is at least 4.99 or greater. 
 
Secondly, I would like to have a pcf that gives me every stock that has had an ipo within the last ten years up until today.

I hope everything was explain sufficiently. Thank you in advance for you help.

Brian,

Strictly speaking, it is not possible to write a PCF satisfying the condition stated above.

For example, suppose O, H, L, C is 15, 20, 10, 15.  There is at least a 100% move during the day if and only if a price of 20 occurred after a price of 10.

It is not appropriate for me tell you what can not be done without indicating what can be done along the lines of your request.

There are two problems which can occur when trying to write a PCF for the condition stated above.  The first was illustrated in my previous post where O, H, L, C cannot determine whether a move of 100% occurred during the day.  The second occurs when a symbol does not have the full 14 weeks of data.  In this case, any PCF using price variables not available will not return True even though there is a required 100% move in the earlier data.  I will assume that each symbol in the WatchList used has sufficient data to calculate the PCFs of interest.

With the assumption, three PCFs can be written:

PCF1:  Returns True if and only if the O, H, L, C, data can determine a required 100% move has occurred.

PCF2:   Returns True if and only if the O, H, L, C, data cannot determine whether a required 100% move has occurred.

PCF3:   Returns True if and only if the O, H, L, C, data can determine a required 100% move has not occurred.

Given sufficient data, exactly one of the three FCFs will return True.
 
We will simplify the requirement and write the three PCFs.

The simplified requirement is:

Find stocks that have moved at least 100% within the most recent 4 days.

PCF1:

I find it interesting how our interpretations differ and on which areas we decided to focus on stricter, looser or more literal interpretation of brianhbernstein's request.

I interpreted "This 100% move can happen during a session, closing prices are unecessary." as representing a basic understanding of the issues involved with the request when only OHLC data is available and as a suggestion that these issues be ignored. Your interpretation is stricter.

I interpreted "This PCF also needs to ensure that at the beginning of the move, the stocks' price is at least 4.99 or greater." as meaning the Low during the period being tested need to be at least $4.99. Your interpretation that the High over the period only needs to be at least $9.98 is looser.

For others, I have taken the viewpoint that if 0 < x < y, then an x% upmove is always embedded in the end of a y% upmove.

My data is not in chronological order and I do not recall how this affects PCFs.  In other words, I was too lazy and wanted your comments anyway.
