I was looking at a 3 day chart on Ninja Trader , with a 34 EMA . Many of the indices and or like SPY
tagged the 34 EMA on the 6th or 7th of Jan . When I looked at a 34 EMA on telechart 3 day chart it was no where near price for the same date . I had to change it to something like a 23 EMA to get it to match up
with the other charting package . I know there's an original 'EMA and then there's a more modern EMA .
I'm just trying to figure out why there's such a big difference in charting packages ?
Thx .

I can't say for sure without seeing the other packages, but it sounds (looks) like they might be taking a 34 EMA on a daily chart and converting it to a 3-day along with price. On the daily chart of SPY, price moves up through the 34 EMA on 12/31 and back down through the 34 EMA on 1/9/09. If you took that daily 34 EMA and converted it to a 3-day chart, price would still show a "tag" of the 34 EMA.
I'm not positive that this is what's happening, but it sounds like NinjaTrader is doing the calculations on a daily chart and then converting the resulting EMA to a 3-day chart whereas TeleChart calculates the 34 EMA based on the time frame the price chart is set to.
