StockTiming has created a zero based RSI indicator which they watch. Is this possible in SF5? They say:

" Short term traders, and day traders need to know the upside or downside bias in any given day, and an idea of how strong that bias is.

One way to do this is by comparing two different Relative Strength periods of time. For this analysis, we use a RSI setting of 9, and a RSI setting of 30.

Furthermore, for simplicity in reading the results, we "zero base" the RSI reading for our paid subscribers. To zero base a RSI reading, one needs to subtract 50 from the RSI level at each data point. Then, instead of 50 being neutral, 0 is neutral. This makes it very easy to see if the RSI is positive and how positive it is.

So, let's apply this to the New York Stock Exchange (NYA Index). Today's posted chart is a daily chart going back to last December.

Look for two things on today's posted chart ...

1. When the RSI readings are positive or negative (above or below zero).

And,

2. When the Green 9 RSI reading is ABOVE (or below) the Blue 30 RSI reading. Those are times where the daily market strength is "extra strong" or "extra weak".

Thank You

This would be used mainly to watch the progress/decline of the NYA chart.

The Chande Momentum Oscillator and the Efficiency Ratio are both zero centered version of an RSI. The main difference would be that both of these Indicators are generally calculated using Simple Moving Averages while the RSI is normally calculated using Wilder's Smoothing, which is a type of Exponential Moving Average.

You should be able to Open an attached Indicator directly into a running copy of StockFinder (and save it from within StockFinder if desired). You could also copy and paste the Indicator into the \My Documents\StockFinder5\(Your Username)\My Indicators\ folder and then load it like you would any other Indicator.

I can create versions for specific periods using a Custom PCF Indicator. I cannot create a generalized version which would allow you to enter a period.

You specified settings of 14,3. Are you using TeleChart 2007 or TC2000 version 12?

If you are using TeleChart 2007, what are the exact settings?
- RSI Period: 14
- Use Wilders Smoothing: Checked or unchecked?
- Avg Period: 3
- Average Type: Simple or Exponential?

If you are using TC2000 version 12, are you using RSI - Wilders or the plain RSI indicator?

If you dont mind Bruce I'd like to follow the guidelines which actually began this thread and make two different indicators (one shorterm the other longer)

You made an observation above in this thread on  Thursday, April 22, 2010 11:54:06 AM which may be of use to you.

TC2000 v12 (latest updates)
Wilders RSI  9 and 30
smoothed
Simple
Avg Period: 3

Thank you for once again teaching the important lessons in exactness.
I appreciate you help once again.

I will start by noting that there is no Avg Period for RSI - Wilder's in TC2000 version 12. You can add the Simple Avg Period of 3 from TeleChart 2007 by setting the Period in the Custom PCF Indicator to 3 and the Average Type to Simple. You could also add a 3-Period Simple Moving Average to the Custom PCF Indicator.

You have now mentioned three different primary RSI Periods. I will provide formula to use in a Custom PCF Indicator for all three. The shortest was a 9-Period RSI - Wilders. A 0-centered version could be written as:

50 * (C - XAVGC17.1) / 9 / (.111121221031403 * (ABS(C - C1) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C1 - C2) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C2 - C3) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C3 - C4) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C4 - C5) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C5 - C6) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C6 - C7) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C7 - C8) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C8 - C9) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C9 - C10) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C10 - C11) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C11 - C12) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C12 - C13) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C13 - C14) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C14 - C15) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C15 - C16) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C16 - C17) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C17 - C18) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C18 - C19) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C19 - C20) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C20 - C21) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C21 - C22) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C22 - C23) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C23 - C24) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C24 - C25) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C25 - C26) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C26 - C27) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C27 - C28) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C28 - C29) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C29 - C30) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C30 - C31) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C31 - C32) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C32 - C33) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C33 - C34) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C34 - C35) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C35 - C36) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C36 - C37) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C37 - C38) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C38 - C39) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C39 - C40) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C40 - C41) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C41 - C42) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C42 - C43) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C43 - C44) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C44 - C45) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C45 - C46) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C46 - C47) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C47 - C48) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C48 - C49) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C49 - C50) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C50 - C51) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C51 - C52) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C52 - C53) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C53 - C54) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C54 - C55) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C55 - C56) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C56 - C57) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C57 - C58) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C58 - C59) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C59 - C60) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C60 - C61) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C61 - C62) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C62 - C63) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C63 - C64) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C64 - C65) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C65 - C66) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C66 - C67) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C67 - C68) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C68 - C69) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C69 - C70) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C70 - C71) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C71 - C72) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C72 - C73) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C73 - C74) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C74 - C75) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C75 - C76) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C76 - C77) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C77 - C78) + 8 / 9 * (ABS(C78 - C79)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
