I need to find a way to calculate the 52 Week High and also the 52 Week Low. The results of the scan in Telechart never seems to match what other firms show for stocks reaching their 52 Week High. Cannot understand why there is such a discrepancy.  The list is never the same. How can that be possible?

Without knowing the exact technique or formula used by "other firms" to both calculate their 52 Week High and 52 Week Low and construct their lists I really couldn't say why they don't match.

I've seen the number of Trading Days used in 52 Week calculations vary from 250 to 260 days, so a 52 Week High could be any of the following eleven Personal Criteria Formulas:

MAXH250
MAXH251
MAXH252
MAXH253
MAXH254
MAXH255
MAXH256
MAXH257
MAXH258
MAXH259
MAXH260

I normally use 252 Trading Days, so I'll stick with that for the rest of the example. If we want to find symbols related to a 52-Week High, there are lot's of possible variations of that as well.

Current Day's High at 52-Week High:

H = MAXH252

Current Day's High was new 52-Week High:

H > MAXH251.1

Current Price at 52-Week High:

C = MAXH252

Current Week's High is 52-Week High (keep in mind this is not a calendar week):

MAXH5 = MAXH252

Current Week's High is new 52-Week High:

MAXH5 > MAXH247.5

I'm sure there are other possibilities as well. The same sort of variations exist when calculating the 52-Week Low and formulas related to the 52-Week Low.

Dear Bruce: Thank you for the reply. I tried the first three formulas using your suggestion of 252. The first and third one returned only one stock, UCR, which seems like it stopped trading sometime in July. Why is it even showing up? The second formula returned zero results. Interestingly enough, a different software found CRR, which hit a 52 week high today. Why is that TC can't find these? I am confused about all this and wondered if you could run this yourself and see what results you get.

Are you updating your Personal Criteria Formulas for All Items in System (or at least All Stocks)?

How to create a Personal Criteria Forumula (PCF)

When updated through 08/26/2008, the first formula returns True for 65 symbols (including CRR) while the second formula returns True for 50 symbols (also including CRR).

Dear Bruce:  You were so right. I don't understand what I did wrong, but when I redid it as you mentioned, they all came up. Thank you for your patience with me in getting this to work. I appreciate it very much. It helps a great deal.
