In the Blocks class on 9/14/07, Julie attached the value pointer to the date pointer, so that when the date pointer was moved, the value pointer would also move to show the close of what ever bar the date pointer was on. I looked in the Manual, and looked in the Notes from Detroit, and could not find how this is done.

I also called the help desk and they didnt know either. They said I needed to post to "ask the Trainer".

How is it done.

DasMaus,

I'm glad you liked that idea! To attach your value pointer to the date pointer, follow these steps:

1. Create a value pointer by right-clicking the scale of a chart | Add Tool | Value Pointer

2. Open the properties of the pointer by right-clicking the value pointer | Properties

3. Create the logic for the value you would like displayed. For instance, if you would like the bar high value for any date selected, arrange blocks in this way: right-click in white space and choose Data Feed | Prices | High. Drag the Symbol input to the WatchList. Connect the High Block to a Value for Date Block. Then connect the Value for Date Block to the Pointer Value Block. Finally, drag from the Date input (on the Value for Date Block) to the Date Pointer on your chart.

Your Value Pointer and Date Pointer will be connected, and you should be good to go!

Hope that helps!
Julia

Julia,

I did this and really like it most of the time, however sometimes the date/value pointers just busy up my screen and I would like to be able to toggle them off or drag them off the screen. If I use the slider to expand my time frame a little and move the date pointer to the left and then slide back I can get rid of the date pointer but the value pointer is still there. I know I could change the opacity or color to black but I want something as easy as drag it left and is disappears:) Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jerry

runningdawgcaptlst,
Please save the attached .bWorks file to the following folder:

\My Documents\Blocks Files\Workspaces

You can then open the Workspace via your FILE menu (Open Workspace then My Computer).

You can use QuickEdit to adjust the settings or view the Block Diagrams.

You'll probably only be interested in the Block Diagram for the Value Pointer.

runningdawgcaptlst,
The short delay happens because the attachment can only be added if the post is already there.

Bruce, How do I save the new Value Pointer code so that I can use this new pointer in different workspaces?

stuffbug,

To my knowledge, you are not able to save the value pointer/date pointer set up discussed above.  That said, if you save a WorkSpace or a pane that includes a value pointer that's connected to the date pointer, the pointer will be preseved when opening the WorkSpace or pane subsequently.

Best,
Julia
