Topic: File Corruption with Market Indicator of Custom Indicator (from block diagram)

Talked to customer support last night and they were unable to help me.  They asked me to post this on the Ask a Trainer site.
Topic: File Corruption with Market Indicator of Custom Indicator (from block diagram)
Posted: Tuesday, June 29, 2010 8:59:37 PM
I have created a custom indicator using a block diagram.  I then created a market indicator that averages the custom indicator for a group of stocks.  An average of the market indicator was generated.  Then an average of the average.  Condition built using the two average.  I exited Stockfinder.  When trying to restart stockfinder, the file will not open.  WBI.Workspace error - there was an error opening this layout. It will not open a copy from backup.  I have tried to create the step that causes the error.  It seems to be the condition.  Is this a known problem?
Topic: ROC of Earnings on Daily Chart - calculation incorrect?
Posted: Friday, June 19, 2009 2:58:06 PM
Please take a look at my latest shared chart named "Chart" (pretty creative, huh?).  Also look at shared chart named "Chart2) for the calculation with period = 365.

For AAPL, earnings on date = 6/18/09 are 5018.  Earnings for date = 6/18/09 are 4348.  If I do a ROC for 252 days, the result is 2869.  If I change the period for the ROC to 365 days, the ROC is calculated to be -13662.  How can this be?

Also, on the same chart, the ROC is plotted, and shows a negative ROC in July 2008.  AAPL earnings have been increasing ROC should not show negative for any period in recent history??

Please explain.
Thanks.

I am using a block diagram to calculate the 365 day rate of change of earnings.  The calculations do not seem to be correct.  Please let me know how to handle this.  I have shared two charts that show the problem.
Topic: Using Fundamentals Data in RealCode

How do you insert fundamental data to create a RealCode indicator (or other)?  For example, how would you write a function to calculate and plot the Earnings ($Millions) 1-Yr percent growth from the previous year?

Topic: Plotting Fundamental Data for Active Symbol

How do I add a study for fundamental data for the Active Symbol in the price chart.

I have selected ADD STUDY - HEMSCOTT FINANCIALS - EARNINGS

I get a window to select input

Which of these will link to the active symbol to plot earnings?

Or, what are the correct steps to add fundamental data plots?

Topic: Changing Dates for PCF's, EasyScans

Thanks for response. Could this be forwarded to resources for consideration in future upgrades. I suggest the ability to create a "count" indicator that allows charting items in a list that meet certain criteria. Or perhaps the ability to have the system recalcualate PCF's or other criteria (P/E ratio vs. 5 yr. P/E avg) for a certain date - essentially backdating a stock list end date.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the response. This is helpful.

I am more interested in methods for answering questions similar to the following:

1. How many of the SP-500 stocks have the xx day exponential average increasing (or decreasing)? I want this data for 1-2 years, and it will be very labor intensive to rewrite the PCF for this number of days.

2. How many of SP-500 have P/E less than 5-year average P/E? I want same data for 1-2 years.

3. Similar "counts" of stock lists that meet certain criteria - for many days of history.

Thoughts?
