Click New, then New WatchList. Give your WatchList a name, then click the button that says Import From a File. Click OK. Now browse to find your filename, highlight it, and click Import.

The symbols have to be in a text file, not a spreadsheet.

In Excel, just click File | Save As, and choose .txt as the file type.

This may help some of you who want to import/export symbols into or out of TC2005, a step by step procedure, some basic knowledge of text file name and location structure is assumed.

First, you need to create a text file for all the symbols you want to import, my example file name:
C:\My documents\buysymbols.txt (Your personal text file location and name may be different, but once that is done, go to:

Import Symbols From a Text File into an Existing Personal Watchlist
Top Menu, Select: WatchList (Select your Personal WatchList where to import symbols)
Select: Import Symbols from List (Dialog Box)
List Type: Text File
List Location: C:\My documents\buysymbols.txt (Your personal text file location and name)
Select: Import

Import Symbols From a Text File into a New WatchList
Select Top Menu Icon: New
Select: New WatchList
Name This WatchList: My New WatchList
Select: Import from a File
Location of Text File: C:\My documents\buysymbols.txt
Select: Import

Export Symbols to a Text File
Top Menu, Select: Databank
Select: Export to Text (Data Export To Text Dialog Box)
List to Export: Select, Pulldown Menu for desired WatchList to export.
Available Data Fields: Highlight desired Field: in this case Symbol
Add/Remove Button: Select Add, Symbol
Export Fields (In Order): Symbol
Data Delimiter: Comma
Export File, Check: Single File
Name File: tc2005export (Your personal text file name)
Number of Days to Export: 1
Export Path: C:\My documents (Your personal text file location)
Dates Ascending/Descending: Ascending

Hope this helps.

moakhavi,
You should be able to just highlight the text file once you have navigated to the appropriate folder. Make sure it ends with the .txt extension so TeleChart knows it is a text file.

I have recently tried to import a list of 206 stocks from a .txt file which is in column with no other tabs etc.  It show the stock count as 206 on the upper right side of the import window and the list of tickers.  I click on import and it only brings in 18.  I know that some symbols TC does not track but it is a list from Zacks which certainly has at least 180 symbols.  Any ideas?  TIA

bstsurf,

I was able to import the above list after a few changes using Notepad.  The symbol JWA has an extra character that I removed.  I also deleted the extra spaces that are after each symbol.  Let us know if these suggestions do not work for you.

When it imports my .txt file it only does the top 18 names.  I did not do anything to those symbols after 18.  I would like to be able to just import straight from the .txt file.  Does TC need to have no spaces after a symbol in order to import it?  If so why does it do the first 18?  Also, the spaces are the reason for my challenge, any ideas how I can get rid of them without going symbol by symbol (maybe replace function?)  thanks.

bstsurf,

Aside from the period in the symbol JWA, I do think that the extra spaces are causing your trouble.  If you are not already, I would suggest using Notepad for your Watchlist imports.  I tried to import the list from above using Notepad without making any changes.  Telechart showed only 3 symbols.  Once I cleaned the up the text (extra spaces) all of the 41 symbols from above imported.  I'm not sure of a shortcut for deleting the extra characters I manually went down the list.

I hope this gets you down the right path.

Tal E,  With that info I cut and pasted into excel, formatted the cell as text and checked word wrap and it got rid of most extra spaces and imported ok.  Thanks for seeing me to completion with this task.  Brian
