You may wish to read through the following topic.

Volume Surge vs. Volume Buzz

But the two big differences are as follows.

Volume Surge Today is the current volume expressed as a percentage of its average volume. Volume Buzz is expressed as the percentage it is above or below its average volume.

Volume Surge Today makes no attempt to adjust its average volume to the time of day. Volume Buzz multiplies its average volume by the percentage of the trading day which has passed so far before doing its calculations.

Can I add either of these to my charts in the toolbar? If not, is there something that would show me the total volume traded so I can tell if a stock is trading more or less than average volume?

You can add Volume Surge to the Toolbar by creating it as a formula first.

100 * V / AVGV100

You can actually adjust this formula to better suit your needs if desired. If instead of dividing the current volume by the current 100 period average of volume you wanted to change it to the average volume of the most recent 5 bars as a percentage of the 30 prior bars, you could do that.

100 * AVGV5 / AVGV30.5

Feel free to adjust this as desired. It is not possible to adjust Volume Buzz in a similar way.
