How can I set up a Scan for Price lower for 5 days while MACD higher? (also Price higher while MACD lower).
I would like to do the same with the Stochastic.

Thanks,

In StockFinder 5, you can right-click on Price History, select Create Condition | Moving Down and set it to Passing 5 of the last 5 bar(s) to create a Condition for Price History Moving Down 5-Bars in a row. You would probably want to adjust the slider to the very top (above slowly) if you want to capture even the slightest negative Net Change in Price History.

You can create similar Conditions for Price History Moving Up as well as MACD and Stochastics both Moving Down and Moving Up by right-clicking on the appropriate indicator and selecting Create Condition.

You can then Drag and Drop the desired Conditons onto each other and select Create New Combo Condition to combine the Conditions as desired.

Creating Conditions

You can right-click on the Combo Condition and select Create Scan to create a Scan based on that Combo Condition.

Sorry I didn`t state that I was still using TCNET.  Will your instructions and the video still work?
Thanks.

No, it will not. The question was asked in the Ask a Trainer - StockFinder forum so the answer was for StockFinder. TeleChart 2007 and TC2000 version 12 questions should be asked in the Ask a Trainer - TeleChart forum.

We would need to know the settings of your MACD and Stochastics Indicators as well as specifically which program you are using to help you create a Personal Criteria Formula to use in TeleChart 2007 or Condition Formula to use in TC2000 version 12.

In the case of MACD, we would also need to know if you are interested in the raw MACD, its Moving Average Signal Line or the MACD Histogram.

Understanding MACD

In the case of Stochastics, we would also need to know if you are interested in the %K or %D of the Stochastic.

How can I set up a Scan for Price lower for 5 days while MACD higher?.

Please try using the following Personal Criteria Formula as an EasyScan Condition assuming the MACD 8,17,9 Histogram is Exponential:

How to create a Personal Criteria Forumula (PCF)
Using EasyScan to find stocks that meet your own criteria

C < C1 AND XAVGC8 - XAVGC17 - XAVG(XAVGC8,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17,9) > XAVGC8.1 - XAVGC17.1 - XAVG(XAVGC8.1,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.1,9) AND C1 < C2 AND XAVGC8.1 - XAVGC17.1 - XAVG(XAVGC8.1,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.1,9) > XAVGC8.2 - XAVGC17.2 - XAVG(XAVGC8.2,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.2,9) AND C2 < C3 AND XAVGC8.2 - XAVGC17.2 - XAVG(XAVGC8.2,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.2,9) > XAVGC8.3 - XAVGC17.3 - XAVG(XAVGC8.3,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.3,9) AND C3 < C4 AND XAVGC8.3- XAVGC17.3 - XAVG(XAVGC8.3,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.3,9) > XAVGC8.4 - XAVGC17.4 - XAVG(XAVGC8.4,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.4,9) AND C4 < C5 AND XAVGC8.4 - XAVGC17.4 - XAVG(XAVGC8.4,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.4,9) > XAVGC8.5 - XAVGC17.5 - XAVG(XAVGC8.5,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.5,9)

QUOTE (flash1)
(also Price higher while MACD lower).

Please try using the following PCF as an EasyScan Condition:

C > C1 AND XAVGC8 - XAVGC17 - XAVG(XAVGC8,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17,9) < XAVGC8.1 - XAVGC17.1 - XAVG(XAVGC8.1,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.1,9) AND C1 > C2 AND XAVGC8.1 - XAVGC17.1 - XAVG(XAVGC8.1,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.1,9) < XAVGC8.2 - XAVGC17.2 - XAVG(XAVGC8.2,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.2,9) AND C2 > C3 AND XAVGC8.2 - XAVGC17.2 - XAVG(XAVGC8.2,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.2,9) < XAVGC8.3 - XAVGC17.3 - XAVG(XAVGC8.3,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.3,9) AND C3 > C4 AND XAVGC8.3- XAVGC17.3 - XAVG(XAVGC8.3,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.3,9) < XAVGC8.4 - XAVGC17.4 - XAVG(XAVGC8.4,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.4,9) AND C4 > C5 AND XAVGC8.4 - XAVGC17.4 - XAVG(XAVGC8.4,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.4,9) < XAVGC8.5 - XAVGC17.5 - XAVG(XAVGC8.5,9) + XAVG(XAVGC17.5,9)

If the MACD Histogram is Simple, you can remove all of the Xs from the formulas.

I would like to do the same with the Stochastic.

If you are interested in price moving down while the SK of a Simple Stochastic 12,3 moves up:

C < C1 AND STOC12.3 > STOC12.3.1 AND C1 < C2 AND STOC12.3.1 > STOC12.3.2 AND C2 < C3 AND STOC12.3.2 > STOC12.3.3 AND C3 < C4 AND STOC12.3.3 > STOC12.3.4 AND C4 < C5 AND STOC12.3.4 > STOC12.3.5

If you are interested in price moving up while the SK of a Simple Stochastic 12,3 moves down:

C > C1 AND STOC12.3 < STOC12.3.1 AND C1 > C2 AND STOC12.3.1 < STOC12.3.2 AND C2 > C3 AND STOC12.3.2 < STOC12.3.3 AND C3 > C4 AND STOC12.3.3 < STOC12.3.4 AND C4 > C5 AND STOC12.3.4 < STOC12.3.5

I am using this PCF but it is picking up stocks where the MACD crossed several days ago (like RL).

In general, you don't want to use Condition Formulas in TC2000 version 12 unless absolutely necessary. Clicking on an indicator and selecting Create Condition will almost always create a Condition which is more likely to match the chart and calculates more quickly while using less resources than attempting to identify the same thing using a Condition Formula.

Your formula is for the raw Exponential MACD 8,17 crossing up through zero. You can create this by just clicking on a charted MACD with the desired settings and selecting Create Condition. You would then choose Crossing Up Value from the Condition drop-down menu and set crossing up through to zero.

Indicators, Sorting & Scanning

Your formula doesn't match because the Exponential Moving Averages in the formula aren't using enough data when used as a Sort or in a Scan to match the charts.

Now you might be asking yourself at this point why I used formulas in my Monday, August 29, 2011 4:11:19 PM ET response then? The reason is that creating a Condition by clicking on an indicator does not currently allow you to check for past values. This means that while I could have checked for price increasing between the previous bar and the current bar, I could not check for price to be increasing between the two prior bars instead.
