I create watchlists from the IBD 100 by importing the stock symbols from a text file. The sort order is changed from IBD because I can't import IBD's stock ranking. Is there a way to import not only the stock symbol but also its ranking?

There is no way to import the ranking. You can rank the stocks by your own conditions once in the program, though. Here are a few videos you might enjoy relative to your new list:
Using the Industry Menu to analyze stocks relative to their industries and sub-industries
Use Comparison and Relative Strength graphs to compare a stock to the rest of its industry group
Create your own stock rankings using WatchLists and Sort conditions
Sorting Stocks by their Absolute or Relative Performance
Identify sectors gaining momentum over the past few months

Once you have the list of tickers in a text format, go to NEW (upper left corner of scree)|WATCHLIST
Choose import and point it to where the text file of the tickers is located then follow the prompts.

I just did it but I had a few false starts so I might not be able to explain it correctly.
1. You must have access to IBD. I would presume as a subscriber. 2. If you do go to the Home Page and click on "IBD 100 Index" 3. Locate the phrase "Additional Resources" and click on "This Week's IBD 100". 4. When it asks you if you want to save it say yes. I saved it first as an "Excel Worksheet" 5. Go to Excel open the worksheet and delete all the columns except the column with the "stock symbols". Clean up that column so that all that remains in the worksheet are the 100 symbols. 6. Save that file as a text delimited file. 7. I would recommend not deleting the file that you originally downloaded and saved as an Excel file as it has a lot of good data in it. 8. Back in Telechart go to "File" - "Create New Watchlist". Enter the Watchlist Name (Presumably it will be IBD 100). 9. Click on the Radio Button "Import From a File". Telechart will bring up a directory tree from your hard drive. Locate the text file that you just saved. The symbols should show up on the right side and then just import them.
Since I have only done this one time. I can't tell you what to do the next week. You could obviously create a new Watchlist. If you want to save the watchlist by week then give the watchlist a name of something like "IBD 100 Mar 24". If you don't want to save the prior weeks watchlist I would imagine that you would either delete the IBD watchlist and re-create it or delete the stocks in it so that it is clean before you import the new week's list.
Good luck

Thanks for sharing these steps, Sir Bollinger Band Width. I can't vouch for the IBD steps (though they sound well-documented), but the steps you took in TeleChart are correct. Any text file list of tickers like that can be imported into a watchlist using the steps you provided.

Once a watchlist has been created, can this somehow be turned into a new index?

No, cael, it can't. It has, however, been posted as a suggestion.

Thanks Doug.
I think it is a good suggestion. Worden might also consider adding volume to this index (derived from its components of course) so that volume studies can be applied.

Can one compare one industry to all industry groups?

Yes! Very easy to do. Check out these videos:
Using the Industry Menu to analyze stocks relative to their industries and sub-industries
Uncover the stocks driving the strongest industry groups
Use Comparison and Relative Strength graphs to compare a stock to the rest of its industry group

There is an (awkward) way to include the Rankings in the Watchlist.
First, import the list. The "Tracking Date" for each of the symbols is set to today's date.
Now, manually go thru each of the symbols in the list and revise the tracking dates so that the highest-ranked stocks are recent days, and the lowest-ranked are on older days.
That is ... rank#1 would be today, rank#2 yesterday, ... rank#100 would be 99 trading days ago.
Yep this IS A PAIN. I sure hope W decides to make this easier sometime soon.

What is the value displayed for a linear regression (i.e., Lin Reg 100) when using the pointer mode pop-up window . It does not appear price or slope. The value changes with pointer position but the values are not recognizable. Thanks, Dempsey

I have followed "Sir Bollinger Band Width"s instructions, however when I click on "import list from file" there is no list in the window that appears. Can anyone help?

Where did you save your list? You have to navigate and point the program to the folder where you saved your list.

Yes, I saved it in My Documents as ibd1000725 but when I point to My Documents there is nothing there.

Save it again as ibd1000725.txt and browse there with TeleChart (.txt being the important part). You should see it.
