Hi:

Can you help me create a scan that identifies stock where by the
price moving "up" crosses the 10dma and the 50dma. Specifically
the 10dma will be headed down and 50 dma headed up. An Example is NIHD on June 01,2006. Appreciate your support..

Fred

Do you want the price to cross these averages on the same day? I am looking at NIHD on 6/1/06 and I see the close touching the 10sma but below the 50. I see the daily bar crosses both on the 2nd if they are exponential. Both EMAs seem to be down that day and in an overall downtrend.

Can you clarify this for me a bit more?

What Fred describes is not possible with EMAs. He is likely observing SMAs. He describes exactly what happened with SMAs on 06/01/06 for NIHD.

Thanks,

Errata:

I am in error. Price upcrossed the SMA10 but not the SMA50 in the example. I also do not know what he means.

Sorry,
Jim Murphy

I noticed it crossing the 10sma but not near the 50sma. Price looked closed to the emas so I guessed that is what he was looking at.

Craig,

Yes I would like to see price cross these averages on the same day. True NIHD on 6/1/06 the 50 dma is below but almost there. actually its the 2nd day of most interest because I want to determine if this phenominom indicates a possible strong "put" thx

I will make this for simple averages... note that you will likely find few if any stocks that has all of this happen in just one day...

C>C1 AND C>AVGC10 AND C1<AVGC10.1 AND C1<AVGC50.1 AND C>AVGC50 AND AVGC10>AVGC10.1 AND AVGC50<AVGC50.1

This will return TRUE if:

-the stock closes higher today than yesterday
-the stock closes above the 10sma and 50sma today
-the stock closed below the 10sma and 50sma yesterday
-the 10sma is higher today than yesterday
-the 50sma is lower today than yesterday

As of today's close, only 38 stocks fit these conditions today.
