Topic: Scan to find potential Stocks that will gap up the next day.

mbbcat & Bruce,

I note your valuable contributions with interest. Thank you for that. I was trying to develop a scan that would identify likely candidates that would gap up the next day or at a minimum overlap todays close to the upside. A very experienced trader/instructor on the web, buys (one of his scan candidates) just before the close, and sells the next day for a profit (not day trading). I was trying to develop such a scan. I think he used to select a high beta condition, high average volume, high average day range, and optionable stock. All the best!

I would also be very interested in getting Sir Rotate's 5 PCF's - March 16, 2007.
In particular, I refer to no 5: Volume today vs volume 30 days ago times price today vs price 30 days ago. Does it mean the difference in the daily volume today and 30days ago, multiplied by the difference in the closing prices today and 30 days ago? This could be a positive or negative value!
What math operator do we enter in the PCF for vs? I would be grateful for your help.

Doug,

I understand that using Telechart, I am unable to scan directly for the condition: "latest quarterly EPS up 25% on same quarter last year". However, I can scan for stocks, that are in the top quartile(75% to max) for this condition, and hopefully, achieve the same result. Similarly for the other conditions described in my opening question.

Is my understanding correct?

Many thanks for your help.

I would be grateful if you would show me how to set up a scan on Telechart to scan "All Stocks" for the following criteria:
- Latest Quarterly Earnings Per Share (EPS) up 25% on same quarter last year,
- Last four quarterly EPS up on their corresponding quarters in the previous year,
- Annual Sales growth up 25% on previous year,
- Annual pre-tax profit this year, greater than previous year,
- Return on Equity (ROE) greater than 17%,
- Relative Strength (price) of stock vs SP-500 greater than 80%,
- Institutional ownership > 25%,
- Insider ownership >1.5%
If an exact scan cannot be set up, please advise on the closest that can be achieved?

Best Regards, K

I understand that stocks are more likely to gap up over night than gap down. Can you help to construct a scan, that would short list potentially bullish buy candidates, that could be bought just before the close, with view to selling next day if profitable.
