So I guess both formulas are saying the same thing.  Giving the same result.

I was hopeing this would create and seems to create a 7.5% price band for 84 days.

neverless I think we are closer, thanks for any other input Bruce

Any thoughts on a scan or personal critera formula that would display stocks that have a base.

I was thinking of something that would reflect a 3 to 5 month base.  Preferably, with an upward bias.

I guess a starting point could be  P < (P*1.05)
                                                            P > (P*.95)

                                                        P10 < (P*1.05)
                                                        P10 > (P*.95)

                                                        P20 < (P*1.05)
                                                        P20 > (P.95)

                                                        P30 etc.....
                                                        P50 etc....
                                                        P80 etc...

Maybe I just need to figure out how much absolute value I'm willing to sacrifice, while waiting, and get the excuse book ready!!!

I sold some dogs yesterday to get a decent cost basis on my QID short, this short is now 69% of the portfolios and this ETF has 2.5 leverage to the QQQ index.

I'm screwed, I'm only down 2.5% on the position and I feel that the market is do for at a little bump down.

My clients have not lost money this quarter because they have gained in other poistions, so net net they are more or less even this quarter but I cannot add to this postion anymore and I do not want to sell it and then watch reality set in the market.

I guess I need to at least set a stop on some of the shares because this position is way out of control, HELP PLEASE!!! and don't tell me to sell the whole thing.

Topic: I want to create a criterea that would show what stocks have excess alpha
Posted: Thursday, March 8, 2007 2:04:26 PM
this is what I think it should look like

((XYZ/XYZ5)-1) > (((SP-500/SP-5005)-1)*(BetaXYZ))

This criteria should filter out all stocls that have created excess alpha over the past 5 days, reflecting
