Topic: Need a block to Limit results
Posted: Wednesday, November 28, 2007 6:13:59 PM
Hi Bruce,

I also have been trying to get Rank vs List (Raw Rank) to work, and think I am running into the "isssue" you mentioned .  My list only contains 9 symbols so it is much easier to eyeball the results.  In addition it would be highly unusual for duplicates to exist.  I have added "1" to the rank output before sending to the column for viewing, so I would expect to see 1 through 9 in that column.  I also created a column showing the data that is being ranked, so can easily see if there is a duplicate (there is not).

The results I am seeing is 1 through 8 with two duplicate "8"s.  This must be the issue you were refering to.

I wanted to reverse the order so that "1" was the best.  To do this, I multiplied the input to the Rank block by "-1".  I had expected the ranking noted in the previous paragraph to simply invert, however that was not the case.  I ended up with duplicate "2"s rather than "1"s.  The Rankings revised simply by multiplying the input by "-1".

Any headway on getting the Rank vs List (Raw Rank) working properly?  If you need my data for another example let me know.

Topic: Rank items in active watchlist
Posted: Friday, November 16, 2007 5:16:15 PM
I would like to rank the current symbol against the other symbols in the current watchlist and could not figure out how to do that.

More specifically I want to take a watchlist of say 10 symbols and calculate a ratio of current day price against 200 day moving average, then rank those 10 symbols, then have Strategy, buy or hold the number 1 item in the list.  If the number 1 item in the list is displaced, it should be sold, and the new number 1 pruchased.

Thanks for your help.

In the Blocks class on 9/14/07, Julie attached the value pointer to the date pointer, so that when the date pointer was moved, the value pointer would also move to show the close of what ever bar the date pointer was on. I looked in the Manual, and looked in the Notes from Detroit, and could not find how this is done.

I also called the help desk and they didnt know either. They said I needed to post to "ask the Trainer".

How is it done.
