I believe a feature which allows the dashed line drawn on a chart (when one clicks & holds the mouse and drags over time ) to be converted to a trend line on the chart was going to be created.  Is that feature available on 12.5 and 12.6 ?

Yes, that was added in version 12.5. If you click and drag the mouse on the chart, you can press the Spacebar to change it to a trendline on the fly.
