Translate in English MAXH9.26. 26 refers to 26 periods ago but I do not understand what the 9 refers to.

The 9 is the period of the MAXH indicator and the 26 (as you have already pointed out) is the number of bars ago.
So MAXH9.26 is the highest high of the 9 bars ending 26 bars ago.

So to be clear, MAXH9.26 is the maximum high inside a 9 bar range starting 17 bars ago and ending 26 bars ago. Is this correct?

It would be the 9 bar range starting 34 bars ago and ending 26 bars ago, but I think you have the general idea.

Well we both had a backwards, but count the bars... if it were MAXH9.18 it would be the highest of the following 9 bars.
H18, H19, H20, H21, H22, H23, H24, H25, H26
But it is actually MAXH9.26, so it is the highest of the following 9 bars.
H26, H27, H28, H29, H30, H31, H32, H33, H34
The most recent bar in the series is the 26, not the oldest bar in the series.
