We have ETF Component WatchLists which list the components of most ETFs. You can click where you change the WatchList and start typing in the name of the desired ETF to select its WatchList or scroll down the list of WatchLists until you find it. It should be noted however that we will only list stocks which we also carry. An ETF which is based on only foreign stocks might not have any components listed at all for example.

In v12, I click on Watchlists in the left panel, type xlb in search and get nothing in window; no stocks.
After attending the seminar in Tampa I want to get the components of the various s&p 500 sectors without having to type or copy them from outside. Did I miss something?

You need to start typing the name of the ETF, not its symbol.

In the case of XLF, the WatchList you want is Select Sector SPDR - Financial. In the case of XLB, the WatchList you want is Select Sector SPDR - Materials.
