How would I search for stocks that trade in a certain range (ie  $3 range on avg./day)

That would depend on the Period over which you wish to test for this Average Range. For example if you want to check for at least a $3 Average Range over the last 90 Trading Days, you could create the following Personal Criteria Formula and use it as an EasyScan Condition:

AVGH90 - AVGL90 >= 3
