Total return is the price percent change.

Plus things like dividends.

A stock that went up 12% and pays a
3% yield has a total return of 15%

thanks for the reply but pls consider the entire question . I havve many funds with 99 percentile that are losing money. Per your definition this shoudn't happen. What is the 'rest of the story"?

The 99 may be a rank over a number of years.

My definition was for the concept "total return" only.

I believe the 99 rank is vs. other funds.

I don't think this is a "live" number.

A fund can be highly ranked (based on past performance)
then go down.
