Stocks are weighted based on their market cap in each Industry Group?

Craig,

How come the number of the stocks in the industry groups continus to change. I copied down the number of stocks in each group on Fri and I just went through them quickly and a lot of them either increased by few stocks or decreased. Any reason why?

If there are changes they are typically made on Saturday. I am not sure if major changes happened this weekend but I will check with the Data Department.

There were changes made this weekend. Any updates to these lists are done over the weekend. You won't likely see many changes week-to-week.

I am assuming they change the company's Industry Group as it changes its bussines?

If a company, for whatever reason, is better categorized in another industry it is moved there. New issues are also categorized where appropriate.
