Hi There,
My dislyxia is mesning me up on this scan....for pfc...
I would like a scan for when the 20, 50 and 200 day moving averages meet.
This is not a bullish or bearish reqquirement, just when they meet at any price.
Thanks

Try sorting any WatchList by this condition in ASCENDING order:
100*(ABS(AVGC20-AVGC50) +ABS(AVGC20-AVGC200) +ABS(AVGC50-AVGC200) +ABS(C-AVGC20) +ABS(C-AVGC50) +ABS(C-AVGC200))/AVGC200

Craig,
The PCF could return a large number under the conditions:
AVGC20 = AVGC50 = AVGC200
There was no requirement that C be close to the three moving averages.
A PCF for the maximum distance apart of the three moving averages (MAs) as a percent of the average of the MAs is:
100*(ABS(AVGC20-AVGC50)+ABS(AVGC20-AVGC200)+ABS(AVGC50-AVGC200)) /(2*(AVGC20+AVGC50+AVGC200)/3)
Warning: This form does not extend directly to four or more MAs.
Thanks, Jim Murphy

I misread "they meet at any price" to say "meet at price".

You best case will be when the maximum is low.
It is very unlikly they will touch.
They will just get close.

There are many...look at ARNA IN June...all 3 met !
Feedback is good, unknowledgable, guessing feedback is BAD...

Are you sure you have your averages are plotted correctly?
(averages of price)
They do not meet on ARNA.
Why do you think you received the answers you did?
(using a relative sort)
I assure you it is very rare for all three to have the exact same value. (on the same day)
You can try.
AVGC20=AVGC50ANDAVGC50=AVGC200
I don't think you will get many hits.
(that's why it is best to search for how close they are)
Thanks diceman (still underwater)

What I don't think you are understanding. (assuming you have your averages plotted correctly) On ARNA The 20 touches the 200 (may just be close) on about 5-25-06 The 50 touches the 200 (may just be close) on about 6-20-06
How would we scan on 5-25-06 for what will happen on 6-20-06?
My statement referred to all three touching on the same day.
It makes more sense to look for a tight grouping of averages. What good is a scan that gives no hits?
This is why you received the answers you did from Craig, bustermu, and myself.
Thanks diceman

None of your examples passed a % true scan.
They are close. They touch(or are close) on different dates.
But there is not one instance in the charts you supplied.
of the 20= the 50 and the 50 = the 200
On the same day.
Good luck with your options trading for a living.
Thanks diceman (not in the game) (still under water)
