I hear alot of talk about the trend....Window dressing. Here at the last week of the quarter it should be in full effect. If i understand correctly, Institutions, funds, etc.. will dump poorly performing stocks, and buy good performing for the quarter, so their portfolios will look good to their clients. Although im currently in cash, i would like to watch some indvidual stocks that fit the trend of window dressing, if in fact it does exsist. could anyone elaborate their thoughts on this trend and/or any ideas? thanks

timmar..looks like you may already have missed the big day. Jumping on this trend after the first day up in the week is not a good percentage play. Especially when there was no good news that drove this rally today...used Fed comments as an excuse. I am sure he was long some of these stocks.
It really is as simple as you stake. Look for the stock in the quarter that are the most popular..have performed the best and had volume to boot on the up days. The trick is when to buy them...here it looks like they should have been bough on Friday. BUT they just as easily could have taken the market down today and then brought it up on Tues or Wed...I think this is a losers game. ..Peter..any comment on this one?

If you look at the shot-term (few days) percent change in ETF's.
It can be seen that:
#3: IIH #4: TTH #8: VOX
(Tech, Telecom) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #293: IEZ #295: PXE #296: IEO
(Energy, Oil) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Short-term money has been flowing out of energy/oil and into technology/telecom.

Timmar, "Window Dressing" usually refers to a process Mutual Funds go thru at the end of each Quarter. Window Dressing is the 'cosmetic' surgery of giving a Mutual Fund 'the right portfolio', so no one notices they were playing in the wrong markets/trends, etc since the end of quarter/half/year holdings are often more widely published. And a Mutual Fund that was sitting in Cash waiting for the usual September 'dive' would have to get their stated non-cash Allocation back into Bonds / Equities ....perhaps giving the Dow this little push toward uncharted territory...
