Just finished reading a book by Andreas Clenow (Stocks on the Move), which presents a momentum screen.  As a user of TC2000 in the past, I wanted to see if doing this type of scan is possible with TC2000. 

Here are the details...

Rank all stocks based on "volatility adjusted momentum":

  1. Calculate the annualized exponential regression slope calculated on past 90 days and then multiply it with the coefficient of determination (Rsquared) for the same period. In Excel, I was able to replicate this by doing the following:
    1. Calculate natural log on each close price for the past 90 days =Ln(close)
    2. Using results from Ln, calculate the exponential slope for thhe past 90 days =Slope(Ln,period)
    3. Annualize the exponential slope =(POWER(EXP(exponential slope),250))-1)
    4. Using the Ln results, calculate r squared for each price in the past 90 days =RSQ(Ln,period)
    5. Calculate the Adjusted Slope =(annualized Exponential Slope * Rsquared) --this is ii * iii

Basically I want to be able to calcualte this adjusted slope by getting an annualized exponential slope number for past 90 days which I would then multiply by the Rsquared for the same period.  This would then be sorted from high to low.

Is this level of statstical analysis even possible in TC2000?

Bruce, I did some more research and came across this post - I am not sure if this individual was trying to to the same thing I am (building a scan in TC2000 to find momentum stocks based on Clenow's book), but I wonder if this solves it.

Basically I want to get to a place where I can do the following r-squared X annualized exponential slope

Using the r-squared forumla in the attached link gave me numbers that were very close to my excel spreadsheet.  However the first pcf (slope) was different. Here is the Excel sheet I am using to get to my final "Adjusted Slope" number which I want to be able to sort on in TC2000.

I may be misunderstanding something about your spreadsheet, but is there a reason you are applying the logarithm to both x and y instead of just to y?

Is the list of x in your example a list of dates or does it specificy sequential bar numbers of some sort?

Oddly (if the slope doesn't match and the r-squared does), the formulas in the 90 Day Annualized Exponential Linear Regression Slope and R2 do use logarithms for the slope but don't for the r-squared.

Hi Bruce - it is sequential bar numbers (1,2,3....90).  On the Ln sheet I calculate the Ln for each of the past 90 days and then on Stats, I find the exponential slope of that. To help, here is a link to the whole spreadsheet:

The formula in your most recent post should be multiplying the annualized 90 day regression slope by the 90 period r-squared.

The formula as given should produce the desired result. There is nothing obvious to change.

Ok - thanks Bruce for your help.  I appreciate your patience as I worked through this.  I imagine the individual in the link in my 2nd post was doing something similar to me so the work had already been done.  I just need to get my head around moving from Excel to TC2000.
