I would like help in creating a particular scan. I would like to be able to scan for stocks that are in a consolidation, say for a minimun of 2 weeks and max of 3 or 4 months. I want to find stocks that are in a very tight range with very little volatility. Can you please instruct me how to execute this? Would you also, please send the response to my email at "(email removed by Moderator)"? Thank you! Sherri

We typically answer questions like this right here in the forum rather than via email. That way, others can benefit from the answers.
There are at least several ways to identify consolidating stocks...stocks trading in a narrow range. One of the more effective ways is to use Bollinger Bands. When the bands contract, that is a sign of low volatility, often meaning the stock is trading in a range.
Here is a link to a video that will show you how to find stocks where Bollinger Bands are either expanding or contracting (you're looking for contracting). Click on the link to view the video.

The ADX indicator can also help you identify stocks that have not been trending. If you click on the Search button above, and type in ADX and click search, you'll get a list of links to other places in these forums where ADX has been discussed. There are also a couple of videos on ADX that will come up in the list. You may want to watch them, as well.

Doug, Thanks for your response, but unfortunately, when I tried to open the video, I got no response. It just isn't happening. Any ideas? Sherri
